Something Blue & Something Borrowed

Happy Independence day, loves!

I just came back from doing a radio hop for Cebu In The Bag which is TOMORROW (@The Outlets at Pueblo Verde, 4:00- 10:00 pm) which was very exciting!!

I’m getting ready to go out and do some last minute shopping for the 3 day event but before I do, I thought I’d make a quick blog post of what I wore last week.

I am soo in love with this Mango top that “Santa Claus” gave me for Christmas last year. As much as I’d give anything for a cheap buy, I have to admit that investing on pricier basic pieces is always a good idea. I’ve had this top for about 6 months and I’ve probably worn it more than any of my other tops. It’s so comfortable, versatile and classy- I love it!

Other basic pieces I think one should really invest on:

1. A white button down shirt

2. Tank tops that can be used as inner pieces

3. Bras

4. A nice, sturdy bag

Structured skirt: Gillian Uang #HyperCebu find

Clutch: Coach

Thanks Jean for this cute illustration. For anyone who wants their looks done, feel free to contact her! 🙂

The Short Suit

I’ve been really into matching sets lately just because it saves me the hassle of having to decide what to wear when I have no time at all. I wore my first “short suit” here and I’m fairly enjoying been able to wear it as a set or as separate pieces.

My only challenge when it comes to wearing matching pieces is how to wear them again without it being too noticeable. For my previous outfit I mix it up by playing around with cover ups and that usually does the trick but with this particular piece, I can predict a challenge so I’ll have to get back to you and let you know how it goes.

I’m guessing that I can play around with my other key pieces like my inner top, shoes and accessories… but that’s for another blog post 😉

My absolute favorite pieces in this look are my over sized round sun glasses that I got from Ziya and my hand-me-down Burberry tote (similar herethat I recently got from my mom. It’s a bit worn out but I appreciate the gesture, nonetheless.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never really had a thing for bags. I’ve never gotten myself a bag that I’ve really liked so I’ve kind of given up when it comes to that department. My mom however LOVES bags (not as much as she loves me… on most days) and I solely depend on her and her hand me downs. I am never disappointed though because she has an awesome collection and I’m always glad to take what she doesn’t want anymore. It’s true, one woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure! Next time, I hope she gives me some of her watches. Mehehehe!

Short suit: Citiwear| Chiffon blouse: Forever21

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about starting my own online ready to wear business which will feature my designs. It’s still in the works but once I’ve finally got everything together, you will definitely be seeing it here!

In the mean time while I’m still being fickle minded, this June 13- 15, 2014 you can buy my pre-loved items at The Outlets at Pueblo Verde! The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be hosting Cebu in the Bag: The Island Madness Sale featuring the Philippines top bloggers: Kryz Uy, Camille Co, Lissa Kahayon and David Guison. This project aims to unite all industries to bolster tourism and propel Cebu as a shopping destination in Asia. And why not? Cebu is known for so many beautiful things in terms of fashion, furniture, art and plus we live on such a beautiful island which will not disappoint.

It’s been such a blessed year for us fashion bloggers to come out and have an outlet to reach out to our readers. I am very grateful for the opportunity and I’m looking forward to meeting new friends, get some badly needed closet space and meet our countries top fashion bloggers! Here are some of the looks that I will be selling:

If you want to see more items that I will be selling on these days, please like my facebook pageI’ll be updating from time to time and showcasing more of the items that’ll be up for grabs!

Til then,

Issa ❤

Posting the last set of photos I took with Roger Cas. You can see the first set and read the melodramatic side of me on this post.

I’m proud to say that the picture above is my most reblogged photo on Tumblr and it has been featured mostly on bike enthusiasts pages.

For those who are wondering… No, I do not own this bike (unfortunately) but I do own my own racing bike. I competed last year during the Sugbo Triathlon in Oslob and if my knee allows me to, I intend on joining again this year. If there’s one thing I love as much as I love fashion, it’s sports (and I don’t even TRY to be the least bit fashionable when I play. shorts + big shirt = perfection!) which I think reflects me a lot. I’m not exactly a girly girl but I’m not a tomboy either. Well, on most days.

What do YOU love? 🙂

If you love events and if you’d love to meet me and my other Cebu Fashion Blogging friends, head down to the Baseline this afternoon for #hypercebu! I’ll be there from 1 – 5 pm and I’d be glad to meet you guys!!

I’ve seen my daily analytic… I know I have readers. Please be kind and say “hi” LOL

See you guys there and if you need more details about the event please check out this entry

Street [sm]Art

I honestly don’t know how I’m going to write this blog. These photos have been sitting in my draft folder for a good week now and every time I get to writing, I always find myself starring at these pictures with a loss for words.

I am madly in love with this set by Jing Pascual and Jade Caballo, it has every aspect I so deeply admired when I got into fashion blogging: a good eye for detail, a killer backdrop and awesome quality of photos.

These pictures are a product of love, passion and LOTS OF GUTS since they were literally shot in the middle of the round during rush hour on a weekday. Hope you enjoy them!

As Summer slowly comes to an end, it has become essential to be prepared for just about anything. Knowing Cebu and it’s sporadic weather, it wouldn’t become much of a surprise if it was scouring hot at one point and then raining like it’s nobody’s business the next.  I mean, it’s already happening -.-

On top of my “to buy” list at the moment is a pair of sleek knee high rain boots that I can easily sport when the rainy season is on full frontal duty. I’ve been doing most of my research online but while I’m still on the hunt, my ever beloved Doc Marten replicas always seem to do the trick- they’re good for taking long walks, walking in damp places and they bring out an extra side of bad ass in me.

Going back to the weather, I always find it safer to stick to my basic white pieces when dressing up. That way, if it gets to hot, I don’t have to worry about feeling so stuffy and keeping a statement cover up is always fun to keep around my waist or to have around my shoulders when the occasion arises.

For this specific shoot I decided to keep things at a minimum since I knew we would be shooting around UBEC Crew’s masterpieces along Rahman street. Their work is so vibrant, meant to stand out and I wanted to work around it, to be seen in it while not being consumed by it at the same time. I guess this is what I came up with.

It’s suddenly become a dream of mine to pose around another graffiti wall in a flouncy full length dress just because I’d like to think I’m ironic like that. (Afterall, I named my dog Meow and my pet rock Fluffy) So until then, I will keep my eye open for new places to shoot- Cebu is full of them! I love my city, I love the people in it and I love being a part of it! #cebukeepsmegoing

Ziya Opens in SM City Cebu!

A new type of Boho Chic has bestowed their beautiful creations on the island of Cebu! Ziya, a fashion line that started in 2004, which is mostly known for the bohemian chic aesthetics has recently opened their newest outlet in SM City, Cebu! The brand that is known for their style beyond the ordinary shares to Cebuanos their gorgeous pieces that mix Asian and ethnic influences. By taking the old with the new, they are able to create fashionable and unique styles that can be easily distinguished as their own.

I was very blessed to have been invited to the grand opening of Ziya last May 16, 2014. I wasn’t just lucky enough to see their amazing products first hand, I was also able to meet Laureen Uy of BreakMyStyle. She was really great to be around 🙂

Here are some of my photos from that day: [I didn’t get to take fantastic photos because the place was FULL but at least you get to how successful their opening was ;)]

I love that Laureen is wearing the same dress as seen on the mannequin from my first photo. It definitely looks 10x better on a real life doll!

It was all just perfect timing that I was also on the way to the beach that evening and that I had also left my shades at home. I was able to buy a beautiful pair of round shades for only P200.00 and I still haven’t switched back to my everyday shades even now that I’m back in the city and my life is boring again. lol.

Ziya definitely stands out among the other bohemian themed stores in the market! I love how they play around with different fabrics and their printed dresses are to die for! Plus, throwing in the pillows are a great accent especially for those whose inner boho babe cannot only confined through pretty clothes alone.

Ziya is Located at SM Mall of Asia, SM Cagayan de Oro and soon to open branches in SM North Edsa, Gaisano City Super mall Iligan and SM Gen.San.

Check them out at the 2nd floor of SM City Cebu (near VECO).

It’s Really Hot & I Don’t Care

It’s been freakishly, unbelievably HOT lately. I honestly cannot stand the heat. It’s soo f*uickvng! insaaane!! And okaaaay, I know it’s summer and I know it’s supposed to be hot but seriously, it’s just.so.damn.hot! -.- #iamsad

If there’s an upside to this weather, it’s that I can wear as little clothes as I please (or that I can get away with, at least). And since we do own a business that mostly manufactures t-shirts and other apparel, I figured that this summer I’d take advantage of it and have as many over sized and cropped tops as I want. So if I’m tagging #citiwear on my blog, thaaaat’s meeee!!

For this outfit I simply wore an over sized shirt that I was too lazy to have tailored once I got it. Initially I wanted a long fitted shirt but then I realized that this is grey and I must avoid sweat stains at all costs so… I settled for this. 😀

I have sweaty pitts sometimes. Yes, that is indeed a fact.

To jazz the whole look up, I paired it with a Golden State Warriors cap because REPRESENT, that’s why! I also wore a gold chain necklace just because it added a bit of character to my look and lastly, I paired it off with my favorite heels, added some dark lipstick and well… this is how I looked.

I also wore this to an event a last week and I added a blazer to make it more “appropriate”. 😉

Here are some of my tips when finding the right t-shirt for you:

1. If you’re looking for a fitting tee, keep in mind that ladies sizes come in curves and the sleeves are a bit shorter in length as compared to the mens’ sizes. This allows the shirt to hug your body better and show your curves.

2. The shoulder line of a shirt plays a big factor in determining if a shirt will look too big or too small on you. Make sure that it falls right above or shoulder joint (?!) and that it’s not draping your upper arm hence, like my shirt is. #sorrynotsorry

3. There are a million different types of material you can make a shirt with and they all have their pros, cons and functions. Learn them (or maybe I’ll share on another post. Lemme know!) and find out which one works the most for you.

… That’s all, for now 🙂

Stay cool (not like this weather!)

Issa

Electric

Happy Easter, Everyone! I hope you are all out somewhere enjoying Sunday lunch and egg hunting with your families or out with friends soaking up the sun or… reading this blog. (Thanks for being here, by the way!)

I wish the holidays wouldn’t come to an end cuz I am definitely having too much fun doing nothing except sit in front of the computer, work out, take long drives and eat all while spending time with the people who mean the most to me.

And for many like me who don’t want to go back to work or Monday, here’s a quick outfit that could easily trick your brain into thinking you’re still on Summer vacation while still maintaining the corporate/ semi- formal feel.

Long, flowing skirts always send out a “i’m-off-to-the-beach” feel and a “i-mean-business” vibe at the same time which is why it’s always my go to garment when attending events when I’m not soo sure of the dress code.

I wore this outfit to the Summer Polish Party held by Beauty and Butter last month and it made me feel like I was spot on with what’s trendy and sophisticated at the same time plus, I wore this to a client meeting right after and they seemed to like what I was wearing. Except I heard a couple of smirks from a couple receptionists that went something like “pffft… I used to have a body like that.” *eye roll* okaaaaay.

So a word of advice to all my wonderful readers: if in doubt, go for a long skirt! Take control of the liberty to dress it up by adding heavy jewelry and some dark make up or play it fun and laid back with a crop top or basic tee. The possibilities are endless for as long as you feel good about yourself and confidence will surely follow. 😉

Still the best manicure I’ve ever gotten!

Cross ring: Aizilym

Crop top: Forever 21

Skirt: Citi Wear

A big, bad shout out to Rabsin De la Cruz of www.finlust.blogspot.com for these wonderful photos!

I love you! You make me feel pretty ❤ hihi

Happy Easter, Everyone! Keep it holy!

To The New Grads, Photogs and Everyone In Between

I admit I’ve been a bit off with my timing lately. I totally forgot about the graduation season (although one of my very close friends just graduated) and it’s a ga-zillion degrees outside yet as I am typing these very words, I am covered in 2 layers of clothing and a jacket. #insaneinthemembrane

I can only think of a million posts I could’ve shared with you guys like “tips of what to wear for graduation” or something of the like but instead, I’m going to share my sentiments with you. You know, I sort of think that’s better.

Sorry but I just HAD to post my graduation picture (to be appropriate) but don’t worry, I won’t steal your facebook thunder by making this my profile picture. Not pointing any fingers. Or am I? *smirk*

Let me tell you a funny story…

I only found out I was viable to graduate on the night before our graduation itself… at around 8:00 in the evening! Clearance signing is a bit different if you’re a nursing student and let me tell you, the road to my graduation was a long, bumpy and agonizing road!

To make a long and very emotional story short, I eventually did graduate after a lot of tears, pleading and raging. On the day of my graduation, and I think everyone of CDU BSN 2012 can attest to this, I was perhaps the most emotional person amongst all 700+ of us. Man was I a mess! I cried to entire time from the graduation march to the receiving of diplomas and I was even crying when I received my special sports award. There are no nice pictures of that day, I tell you!

And honestly, I wasn’t crying because I was sad that I was leaving college. I was crying because I was relieved that I was finally done with it because I strongly disliked college. I was lifted because my 4 years of torture had come to an end, I was free from fulfilling other people’s dreams (nursing. Need I say more?) and I was ecstatic to finally start fulfilling my own.

So my message to all the graduates is:

Congratulations! It’s time to start making your dreams a reality. Carefully but diligently fill your book with lessons from the real world- travel, fall in love with life, get a new hobby and learn as much as you can. Learn the things that college could never teach you and let nothing hold you back now because, nothing should be holding you back! Correct your mistakes, make up for lost time, get lost and find yourself in the wreckage. Do something out of the box, find your dream job and try not to settle for less. Find your direction or at least try to map out where you want to be and where you’re headed. Don’t let the past traumatize you and don’t let the future intimidate you. And please, do it for me, enjoy every passing moment. The world is yours for the taking and isn’t that invigorating?

Change is inevitable and even my mom can vouch for that (despite how old she is) so don’t just roll with the punches, be a bad ass bitch and punch back! Be grateful everyday no matter how hard it is and always try to remember, things could be worse- you could be wearing an expensive mink coat and have animal rights activists cover you in paint and set you on fire! And lastly, don’t forget the people who’ve always had your back. Success isn’t fun when you have no one to share it with.

Be real and if you’re closet gay, it’s high time you admit. You don’t have to carry that baggage anymore and everyone will just be relieved that you’re not the only person who doesn’t know it anymore. (Ok the last one doesn’t really count. Just a dose of my weekly frustrations. hehe)
OF COURSE I'D QUOTE FRIENDS. DUUUH!
And since you have a few more months before you actually have to find a job, why not try something amazing on your last “real” summer by enhancing your photography skills with Australia based Filipina photographer, Malu Dingal! (great segway, right? uh huh, uh huh)
For only 8 days, Malu Dingal, will share her expertise on Engagement/ Pre- nup photoshoots from May 15 to May 23 at The Movenpick Hotel, Mactan.
For those who are hoping to make a career out of photography or for those who want to brush up on any skills or learn from someone else, this opportunity is definitely something you should look out for!
