The Problem With Bloggers & Vloggers: Thoughts, Insights & Harsh Realities From A Blogger

It’s been a rough week for the content creators of the Philippines whether it be online or offline… but let’s be honest, almost everything is online nowadays or will eventually find it’s way there. Whether it be about newbie bloggers & vloggers forgetting their social etiquette, Mocha Uson (NOT! hyperlinking her ever) or whatever grievance there is out there, it’s been bugging the hell out of me and of course, I would like to take the chance to air out my grievances in a semi- long blog post whether Filipinos actually take the time to read it or not. jab!

I’d like to believe that I’ve been in the blogging/ vlogging or as I’d like to generalize it as, the online content creation industry, long enough to be worthy of writing this post. Although I’ve already been blogging personally for the past 11- 12 years, I’ve only been a public blogger (jumping from URL to URL) for the past 5-6 years and a vlogger for the past 1-2 (but I did vlog back in college if that helps strengthen my point).

I’d also like to believe that I’ve been through the bests and the worsts of blogging as I will fondly and blatantly share memories in my career with all of you. I was there when blogging was somewhat “new” to businesses and traditional media wherein people would question our mere existence and say, “what are bloggers?”; to a time when bloggers where deemed as “vips” (which was quickly outlived, btw); to being “just another blogger”.

My favorite memory of this was when I met a prestigious, well traveled and highly respected senior writer who, after I had introduced myself as a blogger, plainly said- “Ah, I’m never going to remember you- anyone can be a blogger nowadays but not all of you can write!” At first I took this comment as an offence but I quickly came to the realization that she was in fact right. Based on my poor use of punctuation marks and run on sentences, I’m sure you would all agree with said senior writer and that’s fine!

I have been around top bloggers, pioneer writers/ reporters/ bloggers, mass com OJTS and newbies in the industry. I started as someone who had just as much no idea what I was doing at a press con, to someone who was given special services and attention at an event, to “just another blogger” who has hopefully earned the respect from her peers and seniors both in the online and traditional media world.

I am writing this article not to spread hate but to hopefully shine light on some pressing issues us bloggers and vloggers are having to face today. Our facebook groups have been buzzing with non stop discussions regarding the current situations and well, if no one is going to defend us, let me be the one to do so but not without sharing my own piece of harsh realities. So without any further ado, here are a few things that are wrong with bloggers and vloggers:

  1. IT’S ALL ABOUT NUMBERS

Just like any other industry the business of being online is all about numbers- how many views you make in a day/ week/ month, subscribers, followers, etc. I was once introduced to an online whatever-she-was who came up to me and said, “Hi! I’m _______, I make 100,000 views in a month. And you are?” Since I don’t pay too much attention to things like this, I simply introduced myself and stayed as far away as possible from her for the entirety of the night.

During huddles, people will talk about someone and account how many followers this person has and question his/ her authenticity, their “claim to fame” or whatever else there is to talk about. Online, there are a million and one articles on how an online influencer can increase their views/ following and most of the time it involves buying followers (which I am strictly against) or other somewhat helpful tips like bandwagoning, strategic titling, engagement, quality content creation and the like.

Now, I’m not saying that all these things are bad (except for buying of followers) especially because numbers are what companies look at first but as I’ve mentioned in a similar post:

“Sometimes you’ll meet an Instagrammer (influencer that posts purely on Instagram and has a wide following) that has a buttload of followers online and yes, while that’s great and all, sometimes the following doesn’t match their engagements aka likes/ comments. Instagram is a tricky place I tell you and I struggle with it quite often. A harsh reality is that followers, likers and comments can be BOUGHT (enter, Google!) so look for an influencer with a strong following, an engagement and mostly, someone who you think would be a great reflection of your brand.”

Every business is about numbers but when it breeds hatred and competition, it makes things go bad- really fast.

2. A LOT OF US HAVE A STRONG SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT

I recently read about an online content creator who walked into an establishment and demanded for certain services because of the fact that they created content online.  Whether or not the accounts of what happened were true, it’s not the first time I’ve heard it happened. Yes, I’ll admit, some of us do have a strong sense of entitlement and believe that they deserve more than they actually do just because of the fact that they can write or say anything they want about an establishment and get away with it (or can they?). My 2 cents on this is that, you don’t have to get things for free and if you want to try out something on your own, spend your own damn money! If you can’t afford it, then simply don’t write about them or like in the case stated above, demand for something without even coursing through the necessary mediums.

It’s not wrong to ask for something especially if you know your worth and have proven it to whoever it is that you need proving yourself to. Since I’ve taken blogging as a full time job, I will kindly request to be paid for my services, especially for promotions and I will even reach out to brands for possible collaborations by introducing myself to them in hopes of a deal. If the answer is no, I’ll put on a good face and understand that I am simply not what they are looking for at the moment and will pray that the day will come that I can work with them.

I also make sure that once a deal is set, to enumerate my expected deliverables and to actually deliver. It’s not rocket science and it’s good etiquette- one cannot simply ask for something without giving anything in return. Business is business.

3. BLOGGERS AND VLOGGERS REPRESENT NOBODY ELSE BUT THEMSELVES

In the day and age wherein creating content can be easily accessed and achieved, we no longer find ourselves having to represent anyone else but ourselves. Personal branding is what I believe a lot of us lack and just because you can say and do whatever you want because it is your brand, doesn’t mean that you should. Yes, you have the freedom of speech but it doesn’t mean you have to act like a complete nincompoop.

I’ve heard many stories of a blogger/ vlogger acting out of line during events to the extent of irking professionals in the media thus, creating a bad name for the other online content creators. I’ve seen it happen and as a human being, it is really f’in annoying to have to witness that in real life.

Recently there was a debate about the tupperware blogger (I don’t know who you are nor did I do the research about you, fyi), that vlogger who had their camera in a celebrity’s face during a press con completely blowing it for the other media people around, a vlogger who was too eager during an event and personally, I think it’s pretty bad. Although bloggers do not represent a certain establishment, company, etc. you have to remember that you are representing yourself and that is the most important thing.

3.1. EVERYONE WANTS TO HAVE THE BEST CONTENT

It’s true- I’ll be honest, that’s what I aim for but never at the extent of ruining everyone else’s opportunity. Wanting to have the best content out there is something we should all aim for but this should be done in our own means. Having been able to speak to a lot of traditional media professionals, many will express their dislike of the new age of bloggers and vloggers and to be completely honest, I don’t blame them. In fact, I share their sentiments. They too want the best content and their jobs require them to do so but they work in their own professional terms- so why can’t we? That’s the keyword: Professionalism. They show up to an event, listen intently, interact and keep their social graces at par. They don’t whip out their cameras mid event and steal the spotlight for their intros nor do they get in a person’s face shoving their cameras so close you can see their pores to get “extraordinary” shots and most of all, they don’t go over the top and disrupt an event just to do so. I cannot speak for every single traditional media person out there (just in case the nuisances do exist in their community) and I’m not saying that ALL bloggers/ vloggers are like this- a lot of us will make our introductions before showing up to an event or will simply find a strategic way to spice up their vlogs/ blogs but hey,  if the shoe fits, you might want to reconsider your choice of shoes.

4. ANYONE CAN DO IT

I would like to go back to the senior writer who told me that anyone can be a blogger but not everyone can write well- she was brutally honest and it hit me to the core but I won’t lie and say I’ve never said it before either, but just because this statement does present a harsh truth, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it.

The internet is a magical place and it’s given us opportunities we could have only dreamed of. In the next 20 years, I imagine that every single person will have their own blog or vlog because there are no requirements in doing so which is why I give workshops about it because the truth is, anyone can be a blogger or a vlogger but not everyone can do it right and I really want it for all of us! When I say “do it right”, it is in the context of all the things I have stated above. I will never tell another person what content they should make and how to make it because that is something we all need to figure out on our own and by all means, we ought to do it.

My local vlogging community was outraged a couple days back at someones’ remark that vloggers shouldn’t use their phones and some other personal tips at how to make “good” videos online. Now, while I don’t disagree with all her points (I agree with you but it doesn’t mean I like you), I contest at that the thought of mocking someone for even trying. Anyone can blog or vlog but you need to ask yourself WHY you’re doing so and WHAT you want to achieve from it and HOW you are going to do so. If it’s by putting down another person, you’ve already set yourself to fail but if it’s by improving your craft by learning from others and being a decent human being then you do you.

5. THERE IS ALWAYS DRAMA

Someone once told me that the internet loves drama therefore, a lot of content creators will try to breed drama whether it be through their titling strategies aka click bait (much like this post. OK, I’M GUILTY!) or will create their own. This might not be applicable to the majority of content creators but, it is a reality that we still cannot deny and it’s something I want to talk about.

For the record, I could care less for drama but when the only thing you can post about on your social medias of choice is just that whether it be #chesmes or anything that breeds bad juju then don’t be surprised if people end up having a bad perception of you. Again, ask yourself WHY you are doing it and WHAT you can benefit from it. If your intentions were to catch attention and have people talk about you then there, you created drama- congratulations. Now live with it.

Like I’ve said, the internet is a magical place and we are all enjoying our moments in the sun being able to write or say anything we want- much like what I am doing in this post, but let’s go back to self branding and… well, you can figure it out for yourself.

I wish I could list down more things but it’s 11:30 in the evening and there is still so much work to be done and I’ve reached a point of peace as I’ve been writing this which is a good indicator for me to stop. It’s probably too long anyways. I guess the bottom point of this extremely long banter is that we could all use a little bit of respect whether it be respect for ourselves, the people around us, the people we work with and even to the ones we consider as competition.

Bloggers and vloggers or online content creators are not going away any time soon and we all just need to live with one another- we don’t need to like each other, we just need to learn how to live harmoniously. At the same time, we should at least try to be people who others can stand to live with.

We all have a voice and we all have a voice we want others to hear. To those listening, we might not always like what we’re hearing (like now) but people are going to talk anyways… so tuff (for you AND me).

If you’ve made it this far in the blog, thank you and if I offended you along the way- ask yourself why. I’m not playing God and saying I’ve never made these mistakes myself but it’s a never ending journey of living and learning which is what this post was meant to do- educate. I give workshops to share experiences and to help my attendees improve their craft and at the end of each segment, I always tell them to follow their passions and to strive for the best whether it be in through their content, editing styles, writing and most importantly themselves.

What are your thoughts?

Philippines’ First Archery Tag/ Laser Maze & Largest Laser Tag Arena Is Now In Cebu!! The Barracks @ J Center + Giveaway! (CLOSED)

The Philippines’ first archery tag arena can be found smack dab in the middle of the best place on earth, Cebu, all thanks to The Barracks. If archery isn’t your thing, they’ve also got the largest laser tag area in the city, a lazer maze & hover ball so you can enjoy to your hearts content.

ARCHERY TAG

The Barracks’ archery tag consists of a large field filled with bunkers/ hide out spots and targets plus, authentic and patented equipment to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment all throughout the game.

There are a few rules whilst in game such as proper decorum, how to score points and of course how to load, aim and release your bow and arrow.

I was able to hit someone a couple of times while getting hit only once. A piece of advice, form co-ed groups because getting hit on the shoulder by a guy WILL BRUISE YOU! Also, let your inner Everdeen flag fly high at all times. #icouldnthelpit

LASER TAG

With The Barracks’ laser tag arena being the largest (and by large, I mean LARGE!) in Cebu, a large group of friends can enjoy shooting and dodging each other with the finest, safest and most technologically advanced equipment available in the market.

The arena (which was too dark to document) is designed with rows and columns of hiding spots that competitors can use as shields and hiding spots while in play.

Shooting is fairly easy and identifying your opponents is just as simple to do- so simple that I scored 2nd highest among the winning team. Yes, that was a humble brag.

LASER MAZE

Tap your inner ninja through the laser maze as you try to work around and dodge “laser beams”. There are 4 difficulty levels- easy, moderate, hard and expert and a maze challenge that is time based.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to try out the laser maze during my visit which is fine because now I have more reason to come back!

RATES & PACKAGES

GIVEAWAY

I’ll be giving away 5 P300.00 GC’s to one lucky person so you and your friends- all you need to do is:

Doctor On The Go- MyPocketDoctor

This post really goes to show how much my priorities have changed over a very short span of time- mobile space allocated for games have now been replaced with more adult applications and my favorite one so far is MyPocketDoctor.

If you haven’t had the time to check on the video, which I strongly urge that you do, here are somethings that you need to know about the application:

  1. The My Pocket Doctor is an application that is free to download on your iOs and android device  or via their official website that allows anyone to get in touch with a nurse and a doctor through the application.
  2. The application is very user considerate wherein the nurse/ doctors actually calls YOU instead of the other way around. This is to give them enough time to assess the situation and also, to ensure that the user is able to save up on credit/ load.
  3. My Pocket Doctor is super user friendly and has an almost flawless design. It allows you to fill in your patient history which should make the assessment process a lot easier.
  4. Through the application/ website medical certificates & prescriptions can then be set via email.

It’s such a great app and I would recommend it to any person especially in the case of a medical condition that you wish to be addressed as soon as possible.

If you’re interested in getting 6 months unlimited consultations, make sure to contact Maria Kato!

OPPO F1s: #FeedGoals

When I’m not posting about my outfits or my whereabouts, I usually prefer to post photos of restaurants or food. Everybody on Instagram is a foodie and with all the events that I attend on a weekly basis, it pays to have a good companion with me to document every single one of my gastronomical adventures.

I usually carry around a camera with me but with so many social media applications to update while at an event: Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter- not to mention Instagram & Facebook’s recent story updates… sometimes carrying around a mobile device AND a camera is just too much work! And although I love the quality of photos that a camera can capture, I sometimes wonder if a mobile device can achieve the same quality of photos that I require for my feed.

Whether I’m taking photos of food, fashion, landscapes or even selfies, it’s important to me that my phones camera can take crisp photos that need little to no editing.

Luckily, as I was doing my research, I discovered that the OPPO F1s is the perfect phone for my blogging and on the go needs! It’s front camera is perfect for selfies because of its 1/3.1-inch sensor and F/2.0 aperture so I can take self portraits even in low lighted environments which would be perfect for any intimate photo ops with chefs, restaurant owners or celebrities I encounter at events.

There is also the filters and beautify features that seem to be great but what really intrigues me is the selfie panorama feature on the phone that allows the user to take a wide angled selfie shot by simply rotating the device side to side. It would be perfect for group shots especially with my Cebu Fashion Blogger friends who I usually hang out with at events.

Selfie cameras are great and I’m dying to try it out but more importanly, I am so intrigued about the Oppo F1s rear camera that comes with a 1/3.06 inch sensor which works great for night shots. Dinners are mostly more celebrated where I’m from so it pays to have a device that works brilliantly in those settings.

Overall, I would say that being able to own an Oppo F1s would be a definite upgrade from my current device. It’s speed, aesthetic and and overall performance is top notch and if I want to keep my blogging A- game, then my devices should also be on the top of its game.

What do you think of the Oppo F1s?

12 Things I’m Grateful For After 12 Years Of Blogging #ThankYou

Wow. I can’t believe that it’s been 12 wonderful, crazy, long years! I am literally in tears looking back at all the memories I’ve been able to share to the online world and where this thing has taken me.

I started out blogging when I was 14 years old and back then, I was just an angsty teenager bumming off free midnight dial up internet trying to figure out HTML codes and what marquee effect would go best with my awesome customized cursor. Now, I’m not only Issatalks but I’m also Issaplease which allows me to talk about other things I love which are fashion, food, travel, family- LIFE.

I am the most grateful and blessed person in the world right now to have the things and knowledge (or sometimes, the lack of) that I have right now and once again, for the 11th year, allow me to share bits and pieces of knowledge and aspirations for the year that is to come!

2017

1. Will you be looking for a new job?

In 2017, I can foresee myself taking on new responsibilities which could mean a job or which could mean something else… I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to jinx it but you’ll definitely know when it happens!

2. Will you be looking for a new relationship?

We already know what that’s like. Both of us, actually. So, no.

3. New house?

Yes! I moved places in 2016 and as much as I love my tiny room, it wouldn’t hurt to have a bigger space.

4. What will you do different in 17?

I’m definitely going to do a lot of new things in 2017 but I’m going to try and keep 2016’s mindset of never closing my doors and continually discovering & exploring new things.

5. New Years’ resolutions?

To work hard on my craft.

6. What will you not be doing in 2014?

Forgetting to count my sheep, being so indecisive and revolving my world so much around one single person.

7. Any trips planned?

China! (I honestly don’t know why I’m saying this with so much enthusiasm. lol)

8. Wedding plans?

:>

9. Major thing on your calendar?

Lots of vlogging and blogging projects, PAPA COMING HOME & other stuff

10. What can’t you wait for?

For my papa to come home!

11. What would you like to see happen differently?

Right now I just want the world to be a better place- less conflict, superficiality, entitlement, trash and traffic &  more opportunities, creative outlets, respect and peace.

12. What about you will you be changing?

2016 was a rough journey which took a lot of self evaluation & reflection in order for me to find this peace which I feel like I now have towards 2017. There are so many things I wish I could have changed from the year that is about to pass but in reality, if I never experienced them, I never would have discovered this new person. So… I don’t really know what I’ll be changing in 2017. Maybe my hair color.

13. What happened in 2016 that you didn’t think would ever happen?

OH LORD, WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN?!?

14. Will you be nice to the people you care about?

Always. If not, even more.

15. Will you dress differently this year than you did in 2016?

Sure.

16. Will you start or quit smoking?

Quit. I feel like I say this every year but the end of this year has been great in this genre. So let’s keep doing it!

17. Will you better your relationship with your family?

Of course, always.

18. Will you do charity work?

If given the opportunity, yes.

19. Will you go to bars?

Never really liked going to bars so I’m going to keep staying away from them.

20. Will you be nice to people you don’t know?

I am ALWAYS nice to people I don’t know.

21. Do you expect 2017 to be a good year for you?

Yes because 2016 sucked the life out of me!

22. How much did you change from this time ‘til now?

A whole lot. I don’t even feel like I’m the same person sometimes! Well, not really. But I feel great about myself and I feel like I am so much stronger than I ever was so that’s a great way to feel and to start the new year.

23. Do you plan have on having a child?

We will just have to see. (woah!)

24. Will you still be friends with the same people you are friends with?

I have been blessed with more friends in this life that I could ever need and if God wants to bless me with even more, than by all means, why not?

25. Major lifestyle changes?

Most likely, yes. :>

26. Will you be moving?

Hopefully by the end of 2017 but we’ll have to see how things work out.

27. What will you make sure doesn’t happen in 2017?

No more break ups in 2017, please!!

28. What are your New Year’s Eve plans?

The usual dinner with family. Lots of love & cheer for this festive season ❤

29. Will you have someone to kiss at midnight?

No matter the circumstances, no matter how much 2016 tested us- I will be kissing the same person I have been kissing for 5 years. Gaaah!

30. One wish for 2017?

For it to be kind, fruitful, travel/ adventure/ family & love filled. Only good things for 2017 and for forever.

[2004-2005] [2006] [2007] [2009] [2010] [2011] [2012] [2013] [2014] [2015]

We all have something to be grateful for this year whether if it’s the opportunity to share your thoughts to the world, to be kind to one another, to be of service, to provide others with a wonderful experience or to even just be alive! This year, Air Asia shares with us a heartfelt reminder of the things we ought to be grateful for and their thank you’s for being able to provide us with a wonderful traveling experience through their world- class service of the world’s best low- cost airline.

I would also like to take this opportunity to share 12 things that I am more than thankful for from the year 2016…

  1. Being able to have a voice.

I am just one tiny person in this vast universe but through blogging and now, vlogging, I have the opportunity to share my thoughts; ideas & talents with the world. I never thought that my opinion or skills would be appreciated or yearned for but through your emails, comments, likes, shares & so much more, I feel like I am someone in this big bad world and that feels so great!

My favorites entries this year revolved around my personal struggles, realizations and experiences- things that I were scared to post online but surprisingly, the ones that garnered your love and appreciation. Here are a few:

2. The ultimate gift of family & friends.

I have been blessed with the gift of family & friends who have supported me all the way. Sure, I get teased a lot for being a “blogger” but they’re not just there for me when I need my photos or videos taken but most especially when it comes to being a shoulder I can cry on, designated drivers when I’m too drunk to function (yes, it’s happened!) and fulfilling my perpetual needs to discover the world.

I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it weren’t for these people and I might not be able to name all of you but do know that you make my life so much better just because of your existence!

3. The Issatalks book.

Issatalks is and will always be my firstborn child. My blog is like a best friend, a sponge, an extension of who I am and sometimes, the Issa I wish I could show the world. This year Paolo gifted me with a hardbound copy of my blog entries from 2011- 2015 (but he promises to print the rest. hehe) as a way for me and us to remember our relationship when we lose our way. It’s been a rough (<- biggest understatement of the year!) for us but we’re stronger than ever and this book is more than just a reminder, it’s a dream come true. I can’t wait for the rest of the entries to be printed for my future library! ❤

4. New experiences.

2016 was a year of self realization, actualization and just finding out who I wanted to be and figuring out how to become that person. Along with this mantra, came a lot of wonderful experiences whether through travel, the people I surrounded myself with and just the things I did.

I moved back to the city, I joined more events, put myself out there some more and ventured into a new creative outlet- YOUTUBE.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JKVGWySPgM

5. Being under CPA MCN Adober’s Studio.

Gosh, it feels awesome to say it- I’m a Kapamilya! It’s been sort of a slow year for me in terms of vlogging as I’m still really trying to figure out what kind of content I want on my channel but given the circumstances, I am still blessed beyond comprehension as my craft and potential has been recognized by a network that breeds talent- ABS CBN. How many people get to say their under ABS CBN? A lot. lol. But still, I’m one of them!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ureuSwPAjOY

6. Finding a support system in this industry.

A lot of you must think that being in the blogging/ vlogging industry is so “ma-showbiz” but it’s actually not the case. Sure, we have our moments, like every other group does but for the most part, we’re all just a bunch of normal, semi-crazy, insanely passionate people who share the same dreams and goals and try to help each other out!

I’ve found my rightful place in this world with my Cebu Fashion Bloggers and Adober’s Studio family. I’m at peace, I’m at home and gosh, I couldn’t ask for another support system like them!

7. Being able to work with different brands.

Gosh, I worked with so many brands and establishments this year sometimes I have trouble keeping up! It’s been such a hectic year and thinking about it now, I don’t even understand how I had the time to sulk and have moments of sadness. -.- I was given so many opportunities this year and I am grateful for each and everyone of them. I might not be able to name all of my favorites, but here’s to trying!

And of course, to my TRIPOD!

9. To the Hair Goddess

Blanche, you’ve taken a break from blogging to welcome a wonderful life form into this crazy world but before your baby, you brought life to a world I never knew of before- CRAZY HAIR COLORS. I want to thank you and Angelique for introducing me to something that has brought me out of my comfort zone and has given me so much fun this year. If it weren’t for you, my hair would be alive, for one (haha), but dull and untaken care of. So thank you, I miss you and please date me soon!

10, 11 & 12. Love, adventure & a million lessons.

More than anything, I am grateful for the gift of love whether it be platonic, romantic or passion for the things that keep us alive. I have learned soo many lessons, gone on so many adventures and loved completely- almost dry. I am so much smarter and better than I ever have and as much as I loathed a lot of parts of 2016, I will fondly remember this year.

To the people I love, spent this year with, no longer keep in touch- thanks for keeping it real!

This post is extremely long and that is because I am extremely grateful!

2017, HERE WE COME!

The Pace of the City Life in Cebu Taken with Huawei P9

DSCF2073

There aren’t a lot of things I used to consider when buying a phone- I used to be one of those as long as I can text, call and play Candy Crush then I’m good types, if I’m being completely honest with all of you.

However with blogging and vlogging making a significant impact in my life, I find my mobile phone needs changing and I consider things like battery life, screen display, responsiveness, memory and camera quality to be great considerations.

I was recently gifted with a Huawei P9 which brags of being the first phone to have the world’s best camera lens by Leica in it. Everyone who’s up to date in mobile phones has been intrigued by this bad boy and luckily, I was one of the firsts to get my hands on one! So in honor of exploring new things, I will also be sharing with you all my very.first.tech.review.

By the looks of it, the Huawei P9 is definitely a luxury phone. It’s slim design and different color variations of haze gold, quartz grey and ceramic white scream of sophistication.
Its fingerprint sensor, which is strategically placed at the back of the phone, activates automatically without the need to touch any buttons to prompt is definitely one of my favorite features of this device.

It is slim and fits perfectly in the palm of my hand, making it easy to use it with one hand. On a personal note, I’ve always been used to bigger screens but I have found comfort and ease with the Huawei P9’s 5.5 inch display which has brought me to the realization that it’s not always just about the screen size but also resolution and responsiveness.

RESPONSIVENESS

In the two weeks that I have had my Huawei P9, I have not encountered any problems whatsoever when it comes to its responsiveness. I usually keep a series of applications on at the same time such a Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Whatsapp, VSCO and of course, Pokemon Go and it works perfectly fine despite having all these applications running at the same time. However, I must note that I do not keep them all running at the same time for very long and I do make it a point to clear my running applications after a while.
When it comes to screen responsiveness, I do not have any complaints as well. It moves and glides as soon as my fingers touch its screen and I have never encountered lags, glitches or forced shut downs.

MEMORY
If there’s one thing about this phone which I find to be a bit of a con, it’s having to choose between a second sim card and a memory card. It’s either one or the other with the Huawei P9 but since it does come with 64 GB and 4 GB RAM, I guess it’s still enough. However, I would have liked having the option anyways.

CAMERA
I know this is the part that most of you wonderful readers of mine have come for so I am going to try and be as detailed as I possibly can for this category- if not for you, at least it’s to give the Huawei P9’s Leica camera the justice it deserves!
Let’s be honest, the reason why this phone is catching so much attention is because it is the first phone in the industry to incorporate the Leica optics which has been dubbed as the best camera available. So to have this technology on a mobile phone is every photography-loving persons dream come true.

The first thing that caught my attention about the Leica camera are its dual 12 MP lens and its dual- LED (dual tone) flash. I’ve done my research and each lens is responsible for capturing monochrome and colored images which are merged in order to take extremely amazing photos!

DAYTIME PHOTOS

I am in awe at how great the camera quality of the Huawei P9 is. Its settings are extremely easy to manipulate should you wish to explore its manual settings but if you’d like to play it safe and stick to the automatic mode, you can still expect seamless and vibrant photos.

NIGHT PHOTOS

Not quite a fan of taking photos during low light but I do appreciate the dual tone flash that comes with the Huawei P9’s Leica camera. Obviously, back camera over front camera any day but still expect to take decent photos either way.

Also, I prefer not to use flash.

OVERALL
In total, I am definitely happy with the Huawei P9 and all its features whether it’s the camera, responsiveness, battery life, audio and other features that make this phone as great as it is.
Does it heat up? Yes, if you push it to but never with normal use.

Is it durable? Yes, I’ve dropped it once already (by accident) and it still remains scratch free, undented and still as pretty as ever. Plus, it even comes with its own case and screen protector inside the box which I thought was a very thoughtful gesture.

So if you’re thinking about getting this phone, you should definitely jump the gun. Aside from the memory card/ sim card dilemma, I truly really am grateful to have been given the opportunity to experience this device!

Find out more about the Huawei P9 on their official website and follow them on their social media accounts for more updates!

So… how’d I do?
