When You Take Away The Safety Net In Your Life, Life Becomes More Challenging And Scary But You Can Do Better Things

Thanks to Gizelle for posting this quote from Hithcock which served as my inspiration for the week that went by!
To counter my manic depression, I decided to trash the grieving streak I went through [no pictures of that, sorry] and decided to dress like life was going to be kind to me. I guess I figured that if I’m not going to believe in myself then nobody else is going to, right?
Apple green sweater: Thrifted| Salmon Pajama Pants: IT Park Bazaar| Shoes: SM Department Store| Beanie: H&M
Opted for bright and playful colors for the chilly weather since it was raining when I wore this- good thing too, cuz Cebu’s sporadic weather proved that I have to dress like I’m ready for it’s bipolarity. Who else is having this problem?
Fashionwise, I don’t think any other blogger is going to forgive me for wearing a baggy sweater with baggy pants because rule of thumb is to proportion everything. Loose top = tight bottoms and vice versa. But I’m going to dress any way I like and I wanted comfort, as always and well, is there any other excuse for being lazy?
My moods swings. Bow.

New Feature: The Cooking Fashionistas Vlog Series- Of Quesadillas and Ombre

It’s finally out! <insert awesome background music, please>
The Cooking Fashionistas

This collaboration is something that Justinne and I have been conceptualizing for a while now. Basically, what we have in mind is to share with our viewers some tricks we know in terms of food and fashion.
But honestly, it all just started with me begging her to teach me how to cook. Because apparently, that’s what women do… we make sandwiches and watch over the kids. (Not!)

How’d you like my dance? :> :> :>
In case you can’t view the video, here’s a walk through:
Ombre Shorts
Things needed:
·         An old pair of shorts – (free)
·         Spray paint – (P99.00 at your local hardware store)
·         A bunch of old newspapers – (free)
Step 1: Prepare your work area
You’ll need a lot of newspapers as to not get any on the floor or furniture (although, we highly suggest that you do this outside). Also remember, spray paint is combustible so stay away from any fire, etc.
Step 2: Start from the bottom
Because the concept is from dark to light, make sure the base of the shorts is heavily sprayed on.
Step 3: The higher, the further
As you go higher from the base, pull the spray paint further away from the shorts to get that faded effect
Step 4: Leave to dry
Once your done and once you’ve got the shorts looking just the way you like, leave it to dry under the sun. It usually takes up to 2-4 hours tops.
And you’re done!
You might also like to try:
·         Using 2 or more colors (I suggest using 2 of the same hues)
·         Using fabric glitter
Get creative and don’t be afraid to get down and dirty!
Lemme me know what you think about our first episode of The Cooking Fashionistas and what you would like to see in our future episodes!
Special thanks to Ejay Williams and Rachelle Arandilla for the awesome videography and for the amazing set we had!
Also, thanks to Zage Media Productions for producing this vlog!
Don’t forget to tell your friends!

I’m hungry now.

Black, White & Spikes

Who cares for tears when you can just poke whoever you want with spikey things?
Been PMS-ing the whole week and honestly just felt like dropping everything altogether this week which explains the lack of posts. On top of everything, I had a lot of preparing to do for my oath taking which is hard to do when you want to rip everyone’s head off.
I’m always falling in and out of these depressive spells of mine and I’m always finding myself anxious of what’s in store for me in the next few months ahead. Oftentimes I think it’s this fire that I have nowhere to put and my fears that if I don’t start now, I’m going to end up stuck.
Sitting in a chair for 9 hours doesn’t make it any better, either.
Headband: Samantha Ypaguirre, Turtle neck dress: Mom; Jacket:Bread and Butter Deluxe ; Stockings: Burlington; Purple flats: SM Department Store
I was pretty suffocated, distraught and let down so I think the turtle neck covered that emotion pretty well.
At my defense towards this, I longed for some sort of security. And since I’ve only depended on myself as my own security blanket, I covered myself pretty well with a jacket and these stockings as a reminder of that.
But even at my downiest of downs, I still wanted my redemption and reassurance that throughout all of this- I will come out a winner. Hence, the purple shoes.
And then there’s my spiked out headband because I will never go down without a fight. I’m always going to fight for what I want and stand by my dreams and aspirations.
That’s pretty deep for clothes, isn’t it?
Some people eat their emotions.
I wear them.
How about you?

The Cooking Fashionistas I

Howdy y’all! It’s that time of the month again! For our second When Food & Fashion Meet entry, we wanted to take you to one of the oldest yet, an all time favorite place in Cebu- downtown!

I’ve always loved the hustle and bustle of the downtown area which has got to be one of my favorite places to go to for cheap thrills and great adventures. Adventure aside, the scourging heat and the inevitable thrill of the chase always reminds me of my first home. Feeling nostalgic, I decided to return to my favorite land of tianges and ukays with my ever dearest downtown virgin, Justinne!
In the 7 years that I’ve known her, she has always been the “Kikay” one between us two. Example number 1:
Sorry! I couldn’t help myself 😀
So deciding where to bring her was easy as pie. Hmm.. I could use some pie right now.

Aizilym Enterprises
Address: 37 Lincon St., Cebu City

Landmarks: (across)USJR, (road on the left side of) Freedom Park
Store Hours: 8:00 am – 7:00 pm (Monday- Saturday); 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (Sundays)

Disclaimer: We weren’t sure if we were allowed to take photos inside the establishment so we had to use our ninja moves to sneak in a few ones. We hope you like them anyways!

Aizilym Enterprises which was several braches all over the Philippines including Dumaguette, Ormoc & Bacolod is basically where every kikay/ fashionista/ probable enterpreneur goes to empty their wallets and adorn their bodies with trendy necklaces, rings, bracelets, belts, bags- gosh, what didn’t they have?!

If you’re a trend setter and you don’t want to splurge on items that’ll eventually go out of style after two months then this is the place to go. On the other hand, if you’re like me and you don’t want to jive on trends at their peak – you can wait until they’ve died down a bit and get them cheaper… like these spiked leather bands:
Marked down prices from P90.00- P50.00
It requires a planned trip to actually get there (17B/ 04C) unless you go to the University of San Jose Recolletos then it’s literally just 5 minutes away. But I’ve made my seasonal appearances there and with planned trips, comes tricks of the trade in making your shopping experience worth your while.
So here are my  top 5 pointers to keep in mind when shopping at Aizilym Enterprises:
·         Don’t break your back, pack light. Bring a small bag that you can keep close to your body to avoid snatchers. Expect that you will be stuck there for an hour max so the lighter your load means more time to walk around and skim through the aisles without having to worry about your shoulder falling off. Ask Justinne. 😉
·         Come comfy. When going downtown, I always dress like I’m off to Sinulog. I don’t wear anything I’m afraid to lose and I’m always in something loose or something I’m not afraid to get dirty in. I’ve read a lot of review on how Aizilym is hot and stuffy but in its defense, it is downtown- you know this, Cebuanos! Also, you might want to consider leaving your cars at home. Colon is for commuting.
·         Come stuffed. It can get pretty hot and oftentimes violent (imagine a less glamorous Black Saturday sale) especially on Saturdays so, I suggest that you go with a full stomach because you will get exhausted. And don’t forget your bottle of water, as well. Survival 101.
·          Set your budget. Justinne and I couldn’t figure out why, but the clerks had the tendency of taking away our baskets and replacing them with empty ones. They probably changed mine 4 times in a span of 1 ½ hours and every time they would, I would end up filling it up again even when I said I was done shopping. Since the items are so cheap, it’s important to make a mental note/ tracker of what you got and how much you’ve spent especially if you’re planning to maintain a budget.
·         Check and double check.  Shopping there will not necessarily give you that 5 star experience so it wouldn’t be a miracle if you ended up with defective items. Remember, these accessories are cheap for a reason so, some gold chains might give you allergies or some of the gems might not be stuck on right or in Justinne’s case, you might end up with earrings like this:

So here’s what we got:

No. of items: 17
Total price: P 518.51
Justinne’s stash
No. of items: 15
Total price: P477.78
Our “all shopped out” faces
Rodeo Grill Barbecues + Sizzlers
Location: Archbishop Reyes Ave. (between Isuzu and Hotel Elizabeth), Cebu City, Cebu 6000, Philippines
Operating Hours: 10:30 am- 3:00 pm; 6:00 pm- 10:00pm (open until 11:00 PM on Fridays & Saturdays)
For reservations and inquiry: (032) 236 0607
Shopping really sucked the life out of Justinne and I. We started shopping at 10:00 am and ended at around 12:00++ so you can imagine how famished we were! For the food segment of our adventure, Justinne took me to Rodeo Grill beside Elizabeth Hotel (it’s after the hotel if you’re coming from Asilo). Surprisingly, it was her first time there and my second but I didn’t mind having to go back. In fact, she couldn’t have been more perfect with her timing since it was just the thing I was craving for.
A lot of you don’t know this but I actually grew up in Dallas, Texas and although it wasn’t quite like the Wild, Wild West; I’ve always had a specific liking for anything remotely close to fringe or Texas. The entrance which was a dirt road may not really appeal to many people but I didn’t seem to mind. In fact, I think it added character. The whole ranch-y/ saloon vibe (not to mention it being surrounded by trees) definitely made me a bit nostalgic and made me even more excited to dine there. I wonder if a lot of you feel like this as well but, one factor that I think is crucial when eating out is the experience along with the food. Plus points for making me miss my childhood! lol
Swing right in, partner!
One thing that I really loved about this place is the interior. The chandelier, tables, chairs and even the details they put on the wall were really impressive. It wasn’t over the top and exhausting which often irritates me especially if the place isn’t that big. Having said that, if you come in big groups, you might want to call ahead.
As for the food, Justinne ordered a Sizzling Pork Steak called the Sgt. Peppers Sizzler while got a Deputy Shorty Sizzler or in short, a Sizzling Steak. Note: if you don’t eat this with Coke, you will regret it! Lol.
As usual, I’m going to leave the food blogging to Justinne since I’m not quite sure if saying that, “my steak was buttery and I liked it!” is good enough for you. But it was! And I’m definitely going back for the buttery goodness that vaguely reminds me of the way my Papa likes to cooks.
On another note, something I’m sure of is their mashed potatoes! I’m a sucker for mashed potatoes. Goodness, I would honestly give up rice for this. And Rodeo Grill by far has one of the best mashed potatoes I have had here in Cebu. Unfortunately, I found their servings a tad bit too small so I ended up getting a second order. I finished that serving, too. But I still wish it was bigger. Hee.
Here’s their menu:
Issa’s attempt at food blogging:
Ambience – Good
Steak – Good
Mashed potatoes – Gooooood!
Small servings of mashed potatoes – </3
5 star! 5 star indeed. lol
We hope you like this 2nd entry of When Food & Fashion Meet! Let us know what you think!

Introducing: The Cooking Fashionistas Vlog Series

What did I wear to the very first shoot of The Cooking Fashionistas with Justinne?

White polo: Thrifted| Patched leggings: H&M| Flats: Follie| Bracelet: H&M| Shades: Gift from work
Something comfortable and chic, of course!
So what exactly is the The Cooking Fashionistas?
Since Justinne and I have already covered Cebu’s Secrets on our When Food and Fashion Meet blog series, we’ve decided to come up with a cooking and DIY vlog for your entertainment!
This project is something we’re both really hyped and blessed about at the same time since we got Ejay Williams on board for the pilot episode. He’s really great at his craft plus, he was kind enough to let us crash his place and shoot there, as well.
In a nutshell:
Justinne will cover food (wherein she’ll be teaching me how to cook food since I know squat!) while,
I’ll be teaching her how to spice up her wardrobe through DIY’s and what not!
For the complete lack of common sense, yes, let me emphasize that I did wear white that day. I’m a genius.
What did I know?
Please catch The Cooking Fashionistas this week!

Mustard Loving

Dress: Loalde

For Valentines day, I opted to stay away from the typical pinks and reds which were bound to be everywhere. Instead, I chose something of another color yet equally as romantic. This dress it made out from   some sort of caftan, chiffon and embroidered details on it. Not so sure on the materials but, I think that’s about right.
Since I had work, I had my trusty blazer with me to beat the office “winter”, as I like to call it.
Always does the trick. Plus, I can always get away with wearing sleeveless tops to work, too!
Happy Valentines, love birds!
And Happy Singles Awareness Day to everyone else!
To find out how my day went, check out this blog entry.
xx,

Kimono Cover-up: Weekender| Silk top: Thirfted| Necklace: Mom| Nude slacks: United Colors of Beneton| Shades: Bazaar
I’m really bored with life right now and I’ve been entertaining myself with endless episodes of The Big Bang Theory and chicken. I’ve been eating chicken for 6 days straight now! Breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. Chicken is gooooood.
Monochrome. Nuff said.

edit: Got the blog title wrong the first time. I changed it as of 11:56 pm

Bloody Valentines

Cropped cover-up: Bayo| Top: Thrifted| Pants: Ayala Department Store| Oxfords: Artwork| Watch: Geneva| Necklace: c/o Niña Madera
My jacket really does look like I’ve got blood splattered all over it, doesn’t it? Haha.

Thought I’d give this post title a gore-y vibe since it’s February and everyone’s pretty much hyped up about Valentines. Since very recently, I was never really into Valentines but my mind’s been changed since then… Hmmm… I wonder how this year will go. ^_^

Fashion wise, I’m in love with these shoes. I haven’t really been able to use them to their full potential yet because I’ve only been using them to work. I love how the whole oxford and penny loafers trend is coming back and I’m kind of hoping that bowling shoes (ala grease) will soon make a comeback.

What trends do you miss?

Sometimes You Find Yourself In The Middle Of Nowhere. And Sometimes, In The Middle Of Nowhere, You Find Yourself

First of all, I sincerely apologize for the crappy number of posts I made in the past week. It’s too late to edit them now but do know that I am aware of the cyber garbage I have contributed to this site in that span of time. In light of this, I would like to clarify that I am in no way grammatically challenged nor am I incoherent in any way. Sometimes I suffer from really bad graphospasm/ writers’ block and it usually takes a week or so to shake it off so if I have jumbled words and sentences, I apologize.
I had a really rough week after Sinulog and I don’t know why I pushed myself to blog so much despite the lack of drive to do so. Meh. I’m not too bummed about it- I’m only human, after all. I don’t think it was very smart of me to compromise the quality of my posts for the sake of blogging, though. My bad. Next time I fall into a state of depression, I’m just not going to blog altogether. So heads up to everyone, yes? 🙂 Yes.
Here’s what I wore:
Dress: Loalde| Bag: Bally| Falts: SM Departmet Store
Coincidentally I made this blog entry on a Tuesday, the day I found out that I passed my board exams. Funny how life does that, eh? I guess it’s true what they say, when you hit rock bottom, there really isn’t anywhere else to go but up.
To looking up!
So what’s next?
I’m going to take over the world!
What’ll you be doing?

Black Metal

[Top: Christian Ferre; Metallic Pants: July; Blach heels: Follie; Bag: Gift from Christine Inocencio]

Have you ever had such a hard time dressing up for work that the only things you had left in your closet were metallic pants, jeans and/ or slacks that required 6 inch heels? Yeah, this was one of those days for me. Ultimately, it was a choice between the jeans (which was an obvious no) and the metallic jeans since my toe was still healing (read 8 ironies) so 6 inch heels were a definite “no-no”.

I know there’s a paper bag in this picture that I forgot to keep. SORRY!!

In all honesty, wearing these pants are always a bold fashion choice to make but they make for good pictures…  wearing them to work however, was just plain stupid. The obvious dress code violation aside, I was mistaken as an “inter-galactic” space creature and people literally put on shades or weird faces when I passed by. I know it wasn’t the best thing to put on considering the fact that I work in a very laid back environment and anything other than winter coats and scarves are frowned upon but desperate times leads to desperate measures!

To tone down the attention that seemed to gravitate [funny because there is no gravity in space] towards my pants, I opted to wear a plain black shirt and black heels. I thought it would make a good balance while still making a good “corporate” look. Then I went all out on this awesome bag of mine! Haha.

Overall, I pretty much loved this look. It just wasn’t the best idea to wear to the office. But, we are all entitled to our own mistakes and to days where there’s nothing to wear because your maid was being lazy and you still haven’t learned how to wash your own clothes!

I need a better job that allows me to wear cute clothes. Is anyone hiring? I resign in June!-Issa
