Bride Diaries #2: The Prenup w/ Malou Dingal & How To Plan Your Prenup Shoot

Yes, ladies and especially to the gentlemen, pre nups are more than just an agreement now. Aside from planning the “wedding of your dreams”, wedding trends now advise that you also pre document your big day whether through video and/ or photos. Pre nup shoots/ engagement photos have become such a big part of weddings over the past years with different themes, tones and sets. While some prefer their sessions to be as grand as their love for one another, others might prefer a more laid back and chill session- I, on the other hand, prefer whatever is free/ cheap. lol.

But honestly, free isn’t bad especially when one of your favorite aunt’s, Malou Dingal, one of the best photographers in the business.

I initially wanted to hold off any pre-nup sessions until I had finally achieved my desired weight (trying to shed 10 lbs!!) but when one of Sydney’s sought after and award winning wedding photographers offers to shoot your photos, you suck in that extra weight and make.it.work!

As with any and every shoot I do, I like to establish the theme and especially the location so that I can build our outfits around it. I felt it was important for us to have 2 looks where 1 reflected our fun & silly personalities while the other one being a little more posh. I was lucky enough to borrow a couple of outfits from my wedding gown designer, Bree Esplanada, and after a quick scan through our closets, I was able to come up with a couple cohesive looks for Paolo & I.

I also made sure to give Paolo this quick posing lesson as per Pinterest.

couple poses ideas for wedding photography or engagement shoot ideas

But if I’m being completely honest with you, Paolo & I really just winged the most part out prenup shoot, mostly because we trusted our photographer 100% and knew that she would know what to do with us and I think it’s important that with any couple to also feel the same. And while Paolo and I have agreed on having a couple more shoots done in the next months, here are some thoughts I would like to share with you:

1. Plan your shoots in advance. Is there a place you have in mind? A certain theme? Pinterest inspo? A certain type of photography style? Make sure to talk it over with your photographer then you can decide whether their services are best for your preferences. If not, you can always ask them to recommend someone who best suits your needs.

2. Figure out what you need. As soon as you’ve locked in your photographer, you might also need to decide if you need a set stylist/ fashion stylist/ coordinator (for out of town shoots)/ permit (public shoots), etc. While Paolo & I decided to bet on my fashion styles, I am a big fan of CukooCloudConcepts who are great when it comes to anything and everything related to weddings. I am specially drawn to their gorgeous wedding shoots and event styling.

3. Be prepared. Seems pretty simple yet Paolo and I completely forgot a bunch of things on the day of the shoot. For one, I was supposed to have my ring cleaned yet I wasn’t able to. Instead, I had to settle with toothpaste and a toothbrush as a last resort. Paolo also forgot to get his haircut and ended up rushing to the nearest barbershop. We also didn’t have a hairstyle in mind and Paolo was at a huge risk of ending up with a bad hair day. We also forgot to buy food & drinks for the team and ourselves and were rushing to find replenishments in between shoots. Luckily, everything worked out in the end and we have these wonderful photos to show for it!

4. Get comfortable. Trust me, if you want nice photos, today and your wedding day is not the time to be bashful. The whole point of a pre nup session is to show of your love for one another, give friends/ family a little glimpse of your relationship and have something nice to look back on when you’re older. TRUST ME WHEN I SAY THIS: there will be lots of having to smile, kiss, hug and etc. so if you’re not prepared- be prepared because ginusto nyo yan. I like to practice with a tripod and self-timer settings to practice on. It might come in handy for you, too!

I hope you enjoyed our photos, it feels great to get back into the hang of things again.

How To Casually Wear Long Skirts

A fashion secret of mine whenever I want to look like I tried but really didn’t is to overdress. By overdress I don’t mean by wearing a gown to the mall but instead, wearing statement pieces casually. A long dress? Skip the heels and sport a cute cardi. A full length skirt? A white tee. Just because you bought a piece just for a special occasion doesn’t mean you can only wear it then. If that were the case, would you even ever wear it again?

Sometimes dressing down = dressing up. Especially if you’re me. And you’re lazy. Which also means you’re me.

Shades: Forever 21| Top: H&M| Skirt: Gaisano Grand (Car- car branch)| Bag: Pop District Bazaar| Sandals: Car- car

I swear I try. lol.

An Attempt at Corporate Dressing

I’ve never been good at corporate dressing but when I was asked to return to my high school alumni to give a career talk, I had to at least try.

Luckily, I had just gotten this checkered (?) skirt from a friend after having eye-d it during our Taiwan trip and I was more than eager to take it out for a spin. I decided to make this my main piece of clothing and dress around it, trying my best to make sure that everything was coercive with one another. As you can tell, I had put on some weight during this time (these shots were taken some time November) so I tried to look slimmer by pairing my look with lots of black. I honestly don’t know what I’ve been doing/ eating lately but I’ve been swelling up like a MF. ugh.

It’s taken me some time to post this but I figured I’d upload it and at the same time share some shots from the talk I gave. Thank you for having me over, MMIS, it was nice to be back and not remembered as the girl who never came to class because she was always hiding in the computer lab playing text twist. lol. yeah, that was me.

Cut & Style Your Way Into Sinulog 2018 with Islands

Sinulog is right around the corner and you know what that means my fashion inclined friends- Cut & Style shirts!

I remember growing up and my Sinulog outfit was a pivotal part of my festivities and I would spends hours rummaging through my closet for the perfect street  outfit. Over the past years, Island Sounvenirs has taken the load off my clothes (which I know I will never get to wear again after the festivities) and has not only provided me, but party goers and spectators alike, with colorful and festive garments that allow us to show off our cultures pride with their very own spin!

And of course, their back at it again this year with another round of their famous Cut & Style series for everyone to enjoy! Here’s how you to spruce up your very own Sinulog gear:

There’s no shortage of pieces to choose from at the Islands kiosks as they’re flowing to the brim with different styles and designs for you to choose from. Shirts range from P199.00 and up and once you’re done picking out the design of your choice, you can then pick out your embellishments or proceed to the check out counter if you’re more of a minimalist than avant garde.

Whether you’re a fan of feathers and embellishments or not (I heavily contest them on a spiritual level), you’ve got to admit… there’s something whimsical and fun about them especially with the spirit of Sinulog in the air.

At the 4th and final step of your Cut & Style adventure, you now have the option to have someone design your article of choice for you or you can skidaddle home and design it on your own! I opted to have Paolo & Eduardo cut up and style my own shirt for me because as much as I hate embellishments, I also loathe DIY-ing clothes but it seemed like a fun idea for the boys to do and I was surprisingly impressed. Catch the episode here.

Make sure to follow me on Instagram (@issaplease) to catch the final output!

Want to catch your favorite local celebrities walk the runway? Make sure to check out the annual Cut & Style runway fashion show on January 19, 2018 at the SM City Cebu Northwing Atrium at 6:00 pm.

There Is Time with Nico Valencia

I decided to take a break from work today because mentally & physically, I am so drained. I mentioned in my podcast last Sunday that the workload has been a little overwhelming and I haven’t really had time to just take a break and just be me. I am struggling creatively because work has deprived me of my creative outlets and whilst my brain has the ideas… physically, I am unable to materialize them. And what happens when a person like me becomes what I like to call  “creatively deprived”? I become frustrated, irritable and a bit crabby. This has been me for the past month or so.

I know you’re all thinking that I JUST started and that I probably don’t deserve a break but when you’ve programmed your body and mind to function in a certain way, change can be extremely stressful and so, since I cannot remember the last time I took a break whether from Issatalks, Issaplease or work, in general, I am taking a single day off today.

Paolo is currently in bed but he promised a day of just lying down and being lazy and I am so excited for that- even if I had to wake up at 7:30 in the morning to… finish some work. Ok, I can’t completely abandon my responsibilities. Last night, I indulged in 7 hours of playing South Park Fractured But Whole which I started a month and a half ago but never really got around to playing ’til last night. And as I was in bed playing my eyes and brains out, I came to the conclusions and the awakening fact that… there is always time.

There is time for me to be a blogger and a vlogger, there is time for me to spend time with family, to work, to be with friends and to be whatever or whoever I want to be and as much as there is time, some things also require time. Conceptualizing content and stories take time to develop, a business takes time to function full force and relationships with people take time, as well. So today, I’m going to take my sweet time for me. And Paolo because we haven’t exactly spent much time together lately.

SEE YA!

Reflections with Nico Valencia

I’m finally sharing the series of photos I took pre-birthday with Nico Valencia, a returning photographer originally from Dumaguete.

Initially we wanted it to be a series of photos reflecting my Saturn year, which is something I completely picked out of the book Sad Girls by Lang Leav but somewhere along shooting and getting lost in translation- we ended up with even better shots. But in any case, if you’ve never heard of a Saturn Year before- here’s a little snippet:

“Around the time you turn twenty-seven, Saturn begins to close in on its first cycle. Many people believe this will herald a tremendous change in your life. It’s supposed to be the period where you cross the threshold into adulthood. And it’s meant to be a time that is as magical as it is unsettling. Your life is thrown into chaos and disarray. Think of it as your own tiny revolution.”

I don’t know if it’s the Law of Attraction or if I did this to myself but life has definitely taken an interesting turn in the past few weeks. I’m in the process of making a huge career leap, my creative interests have shifted & challenged and I’m finding my opportunities & even priorities changing- all at the same time!

It’s scary and exciting but I’m grateful to be here. There have been a lot of bumps along the way but I’m finding my own ways to get by. I hope you guys are the same.

Check out Nico’s work

Hoping to get a decent nights’ sleep tonight,
