Throwback Fashion Thursday: Denim

Denim, denim, denim- we just can’t seem to get a break from you can we?

First it was my mom’s old denim jacket from the 80’s…

<www.forthelonelyteengirls.blogspot.comc>

that we turned into vests…

That we eventually tie dyed, metallized and customized…

<www.blog.forever21.com>

Then came the birth of the Chambray shirt, the Chambray dress, the Chambray hoodies, the Chambray skater skirts, the Chambray caps, the Chambray underwear- literally the Chambray EVERYTHING … (ok maybe not underwear :P)

And how could I forget the denim high waist shorts? The denim shorts that started the epidemic of studs and spikes and tie dye…

[It’s sad to be 22 and not be able to wear these anymore. I’m too “uncool”]

And you know, just when I started abiding by the rules of fashion, DENIM on DENIM was suddenly HOT instead of a mortal NOT. Although I never really understood why it was frowned upon to begin with.. It’s so beautiful.

I would say more actually but it would all just be in spite.

As much as I love denim, I live in the freakin’ Philippines where it’s too damn hot to wear ANYTHING.

Check out my first throwback

Manic Issa will be back tomorrow.

La Vie Parisienne Saturdates

Hi everyone! Here’s what I wore on a Saturday afternoon to attend business meetings and have mid-afternoon snacks with the boyfriend:

Dress: Fab (Gift from @ohissaplease)| Flats: SM Department Store| Watch: iWatchz| Bag: Hong Kong| Necklace: Forever21

After my meetings, Paolo and I had snacks at La Vie Parisienne which is just in Lahug, right beside La Mason Rose and the Mormon Church. (Can anyone tell me if the gold statue on top of that thing moves? I swear to (whoever’s God), I think it does!)

I literally cannot eat there because it’s all bread and sweets but Paolo wanted coffee and croissants so I decided to indulge a bit myself. It was a bit hot when we got there though and all the shaded areas were taken so we had to sun bathe for a while.  No biggie.

I honestly don’t like bread or dough for that matter. Unless it’s use to hold a pizza, burgers or a sandwich together. I don’t know a lot about bread or their types and characteristics either but I’m guessing Paolo does and I’ve never seen him crave for croissants since he tried the ones from here. It was… soft. lol. Totally not the person you wanna be talking to about food.

Paolo ate it with some jam I couldn’t have so didn’t bother to check out either. But I loved the tiny bottles, though and they only cost P35.00 a pop. Not bad.

La Vie Parsienne is also known as a wine shop. The second time I went there, we ordered wine for around P200.00/bottle. And of course, what better goes with wine than cold cuts of ham and cheese, right? There they’ve got a wide selection of both ham and cheese that you can buy at 100 grams and have them plattered for you and your friends.

And if you’re not into wine you can always have…

“Sham.pag.ney”

That is totally how I say it.

This container van turned into a French themed bakery/ deli and wine library has a wide selection of things to choose from. They’ve got vinaigrette, icing decorators, biscuits and what not. Aside from that they’ve got sandwiches, coffee, bear, juice and my personal weakness, Macarons.

Here’s what we ended up with:

Coffee, 3 Croissants, 1 Fig Macaron, 1 Pistachio Macaron, Jam (not in the picture)

Here’s the garden. It’s even prettier at night.

La Maison Rose (where I hear they serve CAVIAR!)

And here’s us:

Have a happy Sunday everyone!

Issa

DuZ Grill & A Girl Who Loves Her Ribs

Duz Grill. Cebu’s newest place for Burgers ‘n Ribs

Ok, first and foremost… I am NOT a food blogger. That job belongs to my good friend, Justinne Go. And if you’ve seen the first two episodes of The Cooking Fashionistas you would know for a fact that I CANNOT COOK TO SAVE MY LIFE. Ok, maybe I’m exaggerating a wee bit but anyways, I don’t cook but I can eat. I’m not well versed with food and flavors but this restaurant is too good to not blog about.

The Basics:

The Person: Alduz

Contact number: 0939 936 9103 (Reservations are highly recommended to avoid shortages of supplies)

Address: 33A Fourth Street, San Antonio Village, Apas, Lahug, 6000, Cebu City (It’s the big blue gate at the end of the street. 3rd street, straight- at the end of the gate)

Price Range : P80.00 – P180.00

Best Sellers: Ribs & Burgers

The Interior

The outside. Perfect for those romantic dates or for big crowds. (Hi kitty!!)

The “Private” Room

DuZ Grill, which is named after the chef/ owner Alduz, is a restaurant which is definitely worth the thrill of the chase. (The fun part is finding the place, since there isn’t any signage but actually, isn’t very hard to find) It is located in a small subdivision in Apas, Lahug where no one would really suspect that “the house at the end of the street” was actually a restaurant with lip smacking burgers and ribs.

The place is literally a house converted into a restaurant which started out with the “private” room (ok, I totally made that name up) and eventually expanded until tables had to placed outside.

What we loved about the place was definitely the homey feel that you can’t really find in other restaurants lately. It is so cozy and intimate… it makes you want to come in your sweats and eat ribs while watching TV on the sofa. We loved it!

The Food

My friend & I went for their best sellers- Grilled Ribs that came with a veggie stir-fry side dish and an original Meat Burger. They actually have veggie burgers available but then, it wouldn’t really be a burger now, would it? I will never get vegetarians. 😐

Meat Burger – P 80.00

I am definitely digging this burger being a burger girl myself. Aside from Kri’s Angus burgers (Dumaguette) this is definitely one burgers close to home that I love.

They use  homemade patties mixed with herbs (confirmed by Duz himself. HA! I am not a dimwit!) which is so soft that you can literally feel it with every bite.

Original Grilled Ribs – P 180.00

Where is Justinne when I need her? This picture is so ugly 😦

As for their ribs, they were sooo soft I’m not even kidding. The meat literally fell off the bones which is pretty cool since I’ve never really seen ribs do that before or maybe I am just THAT ignorant! But meat falling off aside, their serving was pretty generous that if we ordered separate orders, we’d be in big trouble. This dish is big enough to share, ladies. Men, you are excluded… WE KNOW HOW YOU EAT!

The Rest of the Menu

“All Natural and MSG- Free”

And look! We got a choco cherry cupcake, too! I had to give mine away though. I hate diabetes.

You can check out Duz Grill’s Facebook page here:

https://www.facebook.com/DuzGrill?fref=ts

See you guys at DuZ Grill. They’re open at 12:00 noon – 12:00 midnight and accommodate take out orders. Remember to call ahead for reservations… and of course to thank me for your gastronomical experience! 😉

xx,

Issa

Your best friend when it comes to cheese, burgers, bacon and anything fattening. (HAHAHA. What do you think, love? Totally pulling your leg!)

Ok, that was probably the birth and death of my food blogging career. Now for some fashion:

Come back tomorrow for more on this look! 🙂

Throwback Fashion Thursday: The Platforms

Hi Everyone! I know that #throwbackthursdays have been all the rage on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and wherever else you can hashtag your life away. And what better way to go along with a trend than by starting your own, right?

From now on and as much as possible, every Thursday I will be featuring The Trends of Your or old fashion trends and how YOU can incorporate them in your daily looks in this new day and age.

You know what they say, don’t throw out clothes cuz you never know when it’ll come back in style. (do people actually say that? or is that just me? lol)

So without further ado:

Thursday Fashion Throwback #1:

THE PLATFORM SHOES

I definitely have the Spice Girls to thank for my past obsession with platform shoes. In fact, I grieved the day they went out of style because that day meant having to go back to my midget size.

Platforms whether made out of cork, plastic, rubber or wood were a lot safer to have on than any other heels. They were solid and they gave me a bit of extra height that we all know (or not) that I needed.

Unfortunately, in the late 1990’s, platform shoes were dubbed as out of style and no one would be caught dead in them. Unless of course,  they were in clear plastic, a towering 6 inches high with a separate heel and probably herpes.

<the typical stripper heel>

But now, I’m glad to say that the platform shoes are indeed very much back in style and are so much prettier than what we ever had in kindergarten.

The styles have definitely gotten more versatile having designs for the girl-next-door, the punkasses and even for those who just want a bit of spunk in their outfits.

What I also love about this resurrected trend is that the length of the heels are not too tacky or compromising. They still give you that height while not looking like you’re pushing it.

<Images from Google>

Here in the Philippines, bombshell Anne Curtis  has been modeling the trend for Primadonna  and let’s be honest, if we could have things our way, anything Anne would wear- we’d buy. (Do check them out, they’ve got a bunch of awesome designs!)

Here’s another way to style them:

Miley Cyrus: Studded Back Platform Sneakers

And then there will always be this:

Enjoy your Thursday, everyone!

What To Wear? Back To School Special

Unfortunately, summer doesn’t last forever. Unless you live in a place where it’s summer all year round. But then, that would take the fun out of everything especially in terms of fashion.
I used to love the Philippines’ sunny-that-could-go-on-forever weather but (and I don’t know if it’s always been like this or if I just FINALLY started paying attention), I’m starting to love the shifts from summer to the rainy season. It allows me to go back to my first love, layering, leggings and BOOTS! Plus, I think we could all take a break from all the heat and the overload of bralets, midriffs and skimpy shorts. :>

And come the end of summer embarks the start of school for a lot of you young-ins and the nothing-to-look-forward-to’s for us boring, overworked oldies. L So for the youth, I’d like to share a few back to school tips of mine when getting ready for school and some back-to-school looks you can use especially when trying to make a first impression on the first day of school. I’m also including some make-up videos we shot 2 years ago (wow, time flies!) with Cebu Youtube   Make up Gurus Noe Villagee of colorismyweapon, Pearl of Doll Face Cosmetics and Janna of Makeup by Janz  also featuring Strawberry clothing– all whom I miss dearly!
ISSAPLEASE’S BACK TO SCHOOL TIPS:
–          Be aware of your school’s dress code [you don’t want to get locked out on the first day of school]
–          Dress to impress! [Class is always the key]
–          … And for the occasion
–          Go for comfort
–          Never be afraid to wear a smile
–          Always keep it simple while still making a statement
So here are my personal choices. Lemme know what you think!
What are your first day of school looks? Share them at: jeanlouiseperez@yahoo.com and get featured on issaplease.blogspot.com J
Good luck,

D’Pond: Don’t Teach A Man To Fish, He’s Old Enough. He Can Do It On His Own

Snicker at the blog title.
Oh, fishthat you??

My family’s always been the pretty adventurous and outdoor loving kind. I lost my Chinese yellow when I moved to Cebu because they trained me to be a sun child at a very young age.
Aside from this, we’ve always had this fetish towards fishing.  In fact, a few months ago, we traveled down south in hopes of finding a new place to release our inner cavemen but ended up disappointed.
Since then, I made a vow to find a new place to fish and luckily, I did! And just in time for Mother’s day, too! So on that special day, I took my family (but mom still ended up paying for it. hehe) to a pretty little getaway in Yati, Liloan called D’Pond. I first found out about it when Paolo took me there because he knew how bad I wanted to fish. And since then, it’s been my favorite place to experience the great outdoors and you know, practice manual labor of having to catch my own food.

Can you imagine that we caught this much fish in less than 2 hours?? That’s what I call fisting daghana! (okaaay, enough of the fish jokes!)

What we loved so much about D’Pond (aside from the FREE WIFI) was how big the area which gave fishers a fair chance at catching their meals. This, and the fact that those fish were HUNGRY. We were literally flooded with fish!

After fishing, you can opt to either take home the fish or have it cooked there for Php 200+/ kilo depending on whether you catch Tilapias/ Langkeyas or Bangus. We caught  Bangus that day which cost us Php 241/ kilo + Php 99 for the cooking fee.
Their cooking is really good (take it from someone who hates fish) and you can choose to have it fried, sugba, tinola, sinigang or kilawed.
And in case you opt not to eat fish hanggang sawa, you can choose from a wide variety of other food like BLUEBERRY PANCAKES!
Plus, they don’t charge corkage either. Just in case you’d like to bring a few chips to munch on. Or lechon. Lechooon :p~

And in case fishing isn’t your thing, you can try boat riding, zip lining and other activities you can do ‘til your heart’s content.
So basically here’s what we spent for:
–          Cottage – P300.00
–          Fish – P 241/ kilo
–          Cooking Fee – P 99.00
          Drinks – 59.00
–          Rice – P20.00
          Fishing rods – FREE
–          Bait – FREE

Here’s what I wore:

Top: Men’s DIYed polo shirt| Shorts: BNY| Silver Flats: Old Navy| Headband: Goody
[introducing my weird kiat smile and un made up face!]
I was very smart about wearing white to go fishing. Oh well, I’m allowed to make a lot (some) of fashion mistakes.

Accessories: From my childhood friend in Canada, Rejoyce (Love you Joyce! Thank you :*) | Belt: Aizilym

The Cooking Fashionistas: Tres Chic, Bella!

Bonjour Dames and Messieurs, Le Cooking Fashionistas are FINALLY back after our long and overdue hiatus [our apologies]!
Bid adieu to your ombre shorts and tropical quesadillas (check out the first episode here) cuz it’s time to pack our LV trolleys (Louis Vuitton or Lord Voldemort, whatever rocks your boat) and head to the land not only of the Eiffel, Louver but the macaroons, the afternoon teas, the fries (teehee) and gosh-by-golly-gee!, the Givenchy, Chanel, Dior and Lanvin!
Since we’re all poshed up, we went full Avant Garde with production with a little a WHOLE lot of help from our FMJ Co. bad assess, Franky, Mark and Jan.
So checked out our sexed up ham and cheese sandwiches and our DIY accessory hanger in video below:
Can’t view the video? Mauvaise chose (that means poor soul. wink*wink), I have come prepared. Here’s the step by step:
Materials needed:
– Frame (you can use: old picture frames/ silk screen frames)
– Wires/ Lanyards/ String/ Thread
– Brass cup hooks
– Paint / Varnish for polishing (optional)
– Dimensional Paint/ Glue/ Glue Gun
– Scissors
Procédure

1.       Mark frame on both sides (for the cup hooks)

2.       Screw the brass cup hooks into the frames (where you’ve placed your marks)

3.       Tie the wires between the cup hooks

4.       Decorate frames with dimensional glue. Leave to dry. (Apply 2 layers to get that “pop out” effect)

Full Metal Jacket (AKA Female Jacket)

[Cover up: Meg]

[Top: Mango| Bandeau: Maze| Skater Skirt: Fashion Diary| Flats: SM Department Store]

Like The Kat’s Meow, who’s look I have yet to steal, I am in love with the whole skater skirt trend and how versatile it’s become allowing petite girls to pull them off as well. Contrary to popular belief, skater skirts on petite ladies, or anything waist hugging tended to cut down the torso rather than elongate it. But in a world where I don’t care for looking tall- wearing high waist skirts, shorts, peplum and baby doll dresses are the least of my problems. What a dream it would’ve been to be a towering 6 feet tall but God is just and I guess, all 5 feet of me aren’t that bad either. There are just some trends that you need to find out for yourself. 😉
What I particularly like about this skater skirt is that it’s made of faux leather which adds a bit more pizzazz to the trending style. I’ve been seeing a lot of black leather (that was sold out) and pastel colors that didn’t appeal on me so much but this bullet type of silver definitely had my name on it!
If you’re searching for the perfect skater skirt for you, you should definitely check out Fashion Diary, where they’ve got an extensive collection of skater skirts and gorgeous clothes to complete your look! From velvet, more metallic and whatnot, if only I wasn’t on a budget I would’ve splurged a whole months earning on skirts and skirts alone. I feel my feminine side seeping through- excuse me while I find my balls.
Balls in check, allow me to talk about something more masculine… Full Metal Jacket! This team consisted of three crazy, cool and really down to earth guys, Mark, Jan and Franky, helped us shoot and edit the second episode of The Cooking Fashionistas. If you check out their channel, FMJ Co., you’ll see how talented they are and how much they enjoy Ninjas, explosions and erm… Cupcakes.
Here are some of the behind the scene shots from this Manic Monday!
For more details, keep posted!
xx,
Issa
p.s. Thanks to The Third for my outfit shots, as always!! 🙂

New Feature: The Cooking Fashionistas Vlog Series- Of Quesadillas and Ombre

It’s finally out! <insert awesome background music, please>
The Cooking Fashionistas

This collaboration is something that Justinne and I have been conceptualizing for a while now. Basically, what we have in mind is to share with our viewers some tricks we know in terms of food and fashion.
But honestly, it all just started with me begging her to teach me how to cook. Because apparently, that’s what women do… we make sandwiches and watch over the kids. (Not!)
How’d you like my dance? :> :> :>
In case you can’t view the video, here’s a walk through:
Ombre Shorts
Things needed:
·         An old pair of shorts – (free)
·         Spray paint – (P99.00 at your local hardware store)
·         A bunch of old newspapers – (free)
Step 1: Prepare your work area
You’ll need a lot of newspapers as to not get any on the floor or furniture (although, we highly suggest that you do this outside). Also remember, spray paint is combustible so stay away from any fire, etc.
Step 2: Start from the bottom
Because the concept is from dark to light, make sure the base of the shorts is heavily sprayed on.
Step 3: The higher, the further
As you go higher from the base, pull the spray paint further away from the shorts to get that faded effect
Step 4: Leave to dry
Once your done and once you’ve got the shorts looking just the way you like, leave it to dry under the sun. It usually takes up to 2-4 hours tops.
And you’re done!
You might also like to try:
·         Using 2 or more colors (I suggest using 2 of the same hues)
·         Using fabric glitter
Get creative and don’t be afraid to get down and dirty!
Lemme me know what you think about our first episode of The Cooking Fashionistas and what you would like to see in our future episodes!
Special thanks to Ejay Williams and Rachelle Arandilla for the awesome videography and for the amazing set we had!
Also, thanks to Zage Media Productions for producing this vlog!
Don’t forget to tell your friends!
For step-by-step directions (is that even the word?) on how to make Justinne’s Ham, Cheese and Mango Quesadillas, check out Justinne’s blog here.
I’m hungry now.

The Cooking Fashionistas I

Howdy y’all! It’s that time of the month again! For our second When Food & Fashion Meet entry, we wanted to take you to one of the oldest yet, an all time favorite place in Cebu- downtown!

I’ve always loved the hustle and bustle of the downtown area which has got to be one of my favorite places to go to for cheap thrills and great adventures. Adventure aside, the scourging heat and the inevitable thrill of the chase always reminds me of my first home. Feeling nostalgic, I decided to return to my favorite land of tianges and ukays with my ever dearest downtown virgin, Justinne!
In the 7 years that I’ve known her, she has always been the “Kikay” one between us two. Example number 1:
Sorry! I couldn’t help myself 😀
So deciding where to bring her was easy as pie. Hmm.. I could use some pie right now.

Aizilym Enterprises
Address: 37 Lincon St., Cebu City

Landmarks: (across)USJR, (road on the left side of) Freedom Park
Store Hours: 8:00 am – 7:00 pm (Monday- Saturday); 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (Sundays)

Disclaimer: We weren’t sure if we were allowed to take photos inside the establishment so we had to use our ninja moves to sneak in a few ones. We hope you like them anyways!

Aizilym Enterprises which was several braches all over the Philippines including Dumaguette, Ormoc & Bacolod is basically where every kikay/ fashionista/ probable enterpreneur goes to empty their wallets and adorn their bodies with trendy necklaces, rings, bracelets, belts, bags- gosh, what didn’t they have?!

If you’re a trend setter and you don’t want to splurge on items that’ll eventually go out of style after two months then this is the place to go. On the other hand, if you’re like me and you don’t want to jive on trends at their peak – you can wait until they’ve died down a bit and get them cheaper… like these spiked leather bands:
Marked down prices from P90.00- P50.00
It requires a planned trip to actually get there (17B/ 04C) unless you go to the University of San Jose Recolletos then it’s literally just 5 minutes away. But I’ve made my seasonal appearances there and with planned trips, comes tricks of the trade in making your shopping experience worth your while.
So here are my  top 5 pointers to keep in mind when shopping at Aizilym Enterprises:
·         Don’t break your back, pack light. Bring a small bag that you can keep close to your body to avoid snatchers. Expect that you will be stuck there for an hour max so the lighter your load means more time to walk around and skim through the aisles without having to worry about your shoulder falling off. Ask Justinne. 😉
·         Come comfy. When going downtown, I always dress like I’m off to Sinulog. I don’t wear anything I’m afraid to lose and I’m always in something loose or something I’m not afraid to get dirty in. I’ve read a lot of review on how Aizilym is hot and stuffy but in its defense, it is downtown- you know this, Cebuanos! Also, you might want to consider leaving your cars at home. Colon is for commuting.
·         Come stuffed. It can get pretty hot and oftentimes violent (imagine a less glamorous Black Saturday sale) especially on Saturdays so, I suggest that you go with a full stomach because you will get exhausted. And don’t forget your bottle of water, as well. Survival 101.
·          Set your budget. Justinne and I couldn’t figure out why, but the clerks had the tendency of taking away our baskets and replacing them with empty ones. They probably changed mine 4 times in a span of 1 ½ hours and every time they would, I would end up filling it up again even when I said I was done shopping. Since the items are so cheap, it’s important to make a mental note/ tracker of what you got and how much you’ve spent especially if you’re planning to maintain a budget.
·         Check and double check.  Shopping there will not necessarily give you that 5 star experience so it wouldn’t be a miracle if you ended up with defective items. Remember, these accessories are cheap for a reason so, some gold chains might give you allergies or some of the gems might not be stuck on right or in Justinne’s case, you might end up with earrings like this:

So here’s what we got:

No. of items: 17
Total price: P 518.51
Justinne’s stash
No. of items: 15
Total price: P477.78
Our “all shopped out” faces
Rodeo Grill Barbecues + Sizzlers
Location: Archbishop Reyes Ave. (between Isuzu and Hotel Elizabeth), Cebu City, Cebu 6000, Philippines
Operating Hours: 10:30 am- 3:00 pm; 6:00 pm- 10:00pm (open until 11:00 PM on Fridays & Saturdays)
For reservations and inquiry: (032) 236 0607
Shopping really sucked the life out of Justinne and I. We started shopping at 10:00 am and ended at around 12:00++ so you can imagine how famished we were! For the food segment of our adventure, Justinne took me to Rodeo Grill beside Elizabeth Hotel (it’s after the hotel if you’re coming from Asilo). Surprisingly, it was her first time there and my second but I didn’t mind having to go back. In fact, she couldn’t have been more perfect with her timing since it was just the thing I was craving for.
A lot of you don’t know this but I actually grew up in Dallas, Texas and although it wasn’t quite like the Wild, Wild West; I’ve always had a specific liking for anything remotely close to fringe or Texas. The entrance which was a dirt road may not really appeal to many people but I didn’t seem to mind. In fact, I think it added character. The whole ranch-y/ saloon vibe (not to mention it being surrounded by trees) definitely made me a bit nostalgic and made me even more excited to dine there. I wonder if a lot of you feel like this as well but, one factor that I think is crucial when eating out is the experience along with the food. Plus points for making me miss my childhood! lol
Swing right in, partner!
One thing that I really loved about this place is the interior. The chandelier, tables, chairs and even the details they put on the wall were really impressive. It wasn’t over the top and exhausting which often irritates me especially if the place isn’t that big. Having said that, if you come in big groups, you might want to call ahead.
As for the food, Justinne ordered a Sizzling Pork Steak called the Sgt. Peppers Sizzler while got a Deputy Shorty Sizzler or in short, a Sizzling Steak. Note: if you don’t eat this with Coke, you will regret it! Lol.
As usual, I’m going to leave the food blogging to Justinne since I’m not quite sure if saying that, “my steak was buttery and I liked it!” is good enough for you. But it was! And I’m definitely going back for the buttery goodness that vaguely reminds me of the way my Papa likes to cooks.
On another note, something I’m sure of is their mashed potatoes! I’m a sucker for mashed potatoes. Goodness, I would honestly give up rice for this. And Rodeo Grill by far has one of the best mashed potatoes I have had here in Cebu. Unfortunately, I found their servings a tad bit too small so I ended up getting a second order. I finished that serving, too. But I still wish it was bigger. Hee.
Here’s their menu:
Issa’s attempt at food blogging:
Ambience – Good
Steak – Good
Mashed potatoes – Gooooood!
Small servings of mashed potatoes – </3
5 star! 5 star indeed. lol
We hope you like this 2nd entry of When Food & Fashion Meet! Let us know what you think!
