Caffe Dara~~ Love, Sweet, Savory & Magic

Love, sweet, savory & magic! Not exactly how I would imagine using these 4 words in one sentence but it’s definitely charming, delightful, delicious and homey at Caffe Dara!

Love

This is what I love about Caffe Dara:

Caffe Dara
1610826_729523880475662_4536942948532716972_n  I love the cute graffiti/ wall art that is plastered all over the walls, the cozy environment and the fact that it’s a good place to go to if you feel like getting away from the common hang out places in the city.

SWEET

The warm coffee, other drinks to choose from and lots of dessert are definitely SWEEEEET! I love how they use geography in their drinks [lahugccino, among other names] and the cute containers/ drinks that they serve.

Ok, I’ll be honest… I mostly love how they serve beer at any time of the day! Scroll down for their STRAWBERRY BEER.

SAVORY

The different Korean food available on the menu! They have so many food that isn’t common is other Korean restaurants and I’ve seen their upcoming menu which is also equally awesome.

Caffe Dara practices an open kitchen policy which means that anyone can go in the kitchen and check the ingredients they use to see if they’re safe to use which I think is totally cool. I’ve tried almost everything on their menu [even the ones that haven’t been served yet] and it’s definitely something everyone who loves to eat should watch out for!

Caffe Dara has been one of my most recent hang out spots whenever I have time to just sit back, enjoy good food, wonderful company and even to just relax. I’ve also been getting most of my make up here since they also sell Korean products there for cheaper prices.

The Best Gifts Don’t Come In Packages

10626861_719292118165505_901316156252963846_n

First of all, I want to say a big fat THANK YOU to everyone who greeted me on my birthday.

I tried my best to personally thank each and everyone of you but my internet has been bad lately so I might not have been able to deliver 100%.

Please know that I feel very blessed this year because of your thoughtfulness ❤

Being 23 was such a wonderful time in my life. I wish I could stay 23 forever (or at least look it) but, I haven’t really figured out how to do that just yet!

If you had to ask me, the best part about ending my 23rd year was getting to spend time with the College Editors Guild of the Philippines and sharing my knowledge about writing online and social media.

It was definitely “one for the books” and I’m really proud of myself for being asked to do it. lol. I’ve always enjoyed public speaking so every chance I get to do it, I grab it!

A Little Piece of Me & A Little Piece of Sky

10523211_690711417690242_3457595663062121266_n

Sharing the rest of the photos we took from A Little Piece of Sky Cafe with Jing Pascual x Jade Caballo a couple of weeks ago.

ALPS Cafe, for short, is located in M. Veloso street, Guadalupe. Getting there takes a bit of enhanced navigational skills but the adventure is worth it!

The establishment was kind enough to allow us to take photos there which resulted in these amazing photos. I love how their theme is up to par with their name and how being there makes me feel like packing my bags and traveling the world. Not a lot of places have that effect on you emotionally- I’ve been planning my eat, pray, love trip since!

A lot of people ask me how for techniques when it comes to posing in front of a camera whether it be for photo shoots, ootd’s or just random photos with family and friends. Although I don’t think that there’s really an exact science to it, I’ll try my best to be as informative and helpful as possible. 🙂

1. Know your angles.

I’m no professional model but I’ve heard it a million times on Amderica’s Next Top Model and when applied in real life, it really does wonders for your photographs. I noticed that I look better when my head is tilted to the side and when the right side of my face is more prominent because of my eyes.

Over time and after a million selfies, finding your angle will be extremely easy to identify. I think I chose my angle because it felt more comfortable to lean that way. lol

10532475_690711071023610_5552029756412605169_n

2. Find your signature pose

When it doubt, go for your signature pose! I know a lot of bloggers who rely on their signature pose, not to be recognized for it, but because it’s our safety net when we have no idea what we’re doing. It helps a lot when calming those nerves and once we’ve reached a level of calmness, experimenting with other poses becomes easier and less awkward.

If you noticed, I like to play with my hair a lot or put my hand near my face. I’ve always liked the silhouette it gives off and how it gives people more things to look at rather than my uneven eyes and bad eyebrows.

10610547_690709757690408_4122470348042922099_n

3. Be aware of your body.

When posing for pictures, I always like to imagine how it would actually come out. “What’s the use of smiling if my arm is in the way? Why do my legs look so weird in this picture? I’m looking the wrong way, my face looks too dark…” Are just a few of things that I’ve said to myself when reviewing sets so I’ve learned from that and applied it in shoots.

Also, I think it’s important to know what kinds of poses don’t work. I am completely mortified with poses wherein legs are wide open or it involves hands in weird places so I always think those are poses to reconsider.

10653579_690709804357070_4686452508797840538_n

4. Emote.

I used to laugh when I would think of the word “smize” (smiling with your eyes) because I thought it was complete and udder nonsense but I’ve come to learn that the more emotion you put into a shot, the better it comes out.

I also think that outfit posts are gratified with the emotions we convey when wearing them. Edgier outfits will look no good with a good girl pose which is why we add a little hip and flair to it and the same goes for other outfits. Can you imagine how awkward it would look if I gave a pa cute face while in a cat suit? I rest my case.

5. Be Silly.

Natural, candid laughs caught on camera. Priceless.

Those are just a few of my tips for taking better pictures. And of course, don’t forget to practice! I hope this works for you 🙂

Gibb’s Hot Wings: The Hottest Wings in Town

10377089_689715131123204_4229349207840004769_n

I am such a sucker for hole in the wall restaurants that nothing excites me more than a new restaurant buried deep within the city I love (Cebu. Duh.)

And although I’m not a huge fan of spicy food, how could I turn down an invitation to dine at Gibb’s, the home of the hottest and arguably best hot wings in Cebu? I simply couldn’t! And for blogging purposes, I’m proud to tell everyone that I did in fact try them!

10509549_689714837789900_4894777352331060961_n

Gibb’s, which is named after the family’s dog, is a small restaurant located within Holy Family Village II, Banilad. What used to be a storage area for the family catering business’ now lies a small and cozy area where hot wing lovers can come together and eat to their hea[r]ts content.

With cut out newspapers used as a place mat, diners can enjoy different kinds of wings like their famous Gibb’s Hot Wings wherein you can choose up to 5 hotness levels, Gibbs’ Angel Wings and the Gibbs’ Spicy Honey- Garlic Wings. And just in case chicken wings aren’t enough, you can also opt for their pasta and sidings.

10556508_689715014456549_930204024395011589_n

Jean, our boyfriends and I, together with owner Coy Oliva, were able to sit down and taste his and his wife’s works of art on a fine Saturday afternoon and although I came out sweatier than I came in (their wings are THAT spicy!), I’d recommend their hot wings to anyone!

I’ll be honest, I know absolutely nothing about wings- I don’t eat them, I never crave for them and quite frankly, I don’t really care for them at all but… Paolo does. A LOT! So on this very special occasion, I decided to drag him along and be the judge of this one. The verdict? I got a very lengthy explanation of the different types of chicken wings, what makes it good and how pleased he was that he FINALLY found a place in Cebu that he could go to to fulfill his wings cravings…

10533433_689715181123199_6487357633249365630_n

On the flip side and on behalf of the all girls who like to play on the safe non-spicy side of things, I really enjoyed everything I had that day especially the cheese sticks and potato wedges! As a firm believer that cheese heals all wounds, Gibb’s mozzarella sticks are just the right mix of cheese and breading which is really hard to find!

I also indulged in their Angel Wings which are crunchy chicken wings glazed in cream, cheese and garlic sauce and topped in Parmesan cheese. (I said cheese twice in one sentence. I’m soo happy!)

And how could I forget their choices of pasta? We were also able to try out their equally famous Gibbs’ Spaghetti and Meatballs and their Bacon and Mushroom Carbonara.I really loved both, favoring the carbonara more but that’s due to personal preference. 😉

10659291_689714774456573_3582968802826667859_n

I think it’s important for me to share my #hotwingschallenge experience so I’m going to do just that! Again, I’m a really not a fan of anything remotely spicy. I once won P 500.00 from eating an entire glunk of bbq powder from Potato Corner and that’s the last time I ever had it! Knowing my low tolerance to spice, Coy was kind enough to prepare my something I could handle. I was able to try the mildest hot wings and the 5th level (the spiciest) and although I was able the stomach the mildest level… god bless the people crazy enough to eat the 5th!

Of course, Paolo will tell you that I’m exaggerating like the true drama queen I was born to be but I’ll let you guys be the judge of this one..

Waki Waffles: The Waffles I #ReallyLove

Fun fact: Belgian waffles aren’t really from Belgium! In fact, not a single waffle is identified as a “Belgian waffle” within Belgium itself however, the Belgian waffles are distinctly known for their use of baking powder instead of the traditional yeast.

These interesting concoctions whether you’re a having them for dessert or an afternoon treat stand out against the American waffles with their distinguishable larger size, lighter batter, larger squares and their higher grid patterns that form deeper pockets.

[Thank you Wikipedia!]

1044239_667215820039802_2984504770241725518_n

Thankfully, we don’t need to travel all the way to North America to be able to enjoy these sweet gifts from heaven-Waki Waffles has finally arrived! Named after their son, Waki, entrepreneurs Pia and Wayne Congmon are now offering authentic Belgian Waffles using the best imported ingredients availble and are made using waffle irons specially flown in from Belgium!

Customers are given the option to choose between sweet and savory waffles wherein the sweet waffles are heavily coated in sweet. dessert toppings while the savory waffles are coated in more filling ones.

My next-in-line waffle would probably be: [1] A Brussel Waffle, [2] Cream Cheese, [3] Strawberries and Peaches, [4] Whipped Cream, [5] Grahams = P 140.00

It sounds weird, doesn’t it? I’ll let you know how it works out!

Now for my #HyperOOTD

Cellphone pouch used as a bag from Digi Babe

Clothes from Citi Wear

Here are a few of my tips when dressing up for a Rave party/ Bazaar/ Outdoor event:

– Be prepared to sweat. It is an outdoor event after all.

– Keep your valuables close & Pack light. I chose to carry around my cellphone pouch/bag and just keep my money in it so I didn’t have to carry a heavy bag while trying out clothes and looking at the stalls.

– Be comfortable. You will be walking around for hours plus the occasional pit stops when you run into friends so it’s a good idea to prioritize your comfort if you don’t wanna end up going early.

– Come with a budget. Don’t ask how much I spent today. I didn’t come with a budget…

– Have lots of fun!

Summer’s almost over for most of us so let’s try to make the most out of it!

Thank you #HyperTeam for the opportunity for us bloggers to meet up with our readers and just have a good time!

‘Til the next!

Issa

#HyperCebu

Hyper – What my mom still calls me on a daily basis

Over the years, Cebu has evolved and adapted to the changes that the Queen City of the South has gone through. We have become a melting pot of different cultures. We, in itself, have become a lifestyle.Music. Fashion. Food. Gadgets. Travel. It’s all in Cebu and it’s all going to be at Hyper Cebu. We’re hitting five birds with one stone and bringing it even closer to home, right into the heart of the Metro, at the Baseline.

Established and stabilized by the JCI Cebu Inc. and strengthened by the commitment of the of Hyper Cebu Volunteers (Members of the young and dynamic students, young professionals and the media practitioners of the metropolis), Hyper Cebu will celebrate the Cebuano lifestyle and will merge everything and everyone together whether you’re a hyper foodie, a hyper fashionista, a hyper techie, a hyper traveler or a hyper musician. For 36 hours, starting on May 31 and lasting till June 1, the Cebuano lifestyle and all that it entails will be celebrated and there will be no barriers.

A Lifestyle Bazaar, a Weekend Food Market and an activity area, to be used as a Family Zone during the day and turned into a rave pit of awesome once the sun sets, will be the highlights of the event with a few surprises in store for the whole duration of Hyper Cebu.
Hyper Cebu is more than just a party. It’s a celebration of everything we are and everything we are proud of, something truly Cebuano. Something that can get us hyped up.

Gladly supporting my fellow bloggers and JCI friends!

Let’s all head down to Baseline on May 31- June 1 to celebrate HYPER Cebu.

See you guys there!

#AWholeNewWrap: Jafar’s Shawarma Station

I know I like something when I insist on going there twice or even thrice in a row.

Last night’s dinner with a bunch of my friends was the minced beef shawarma wrap (P79.00) and today’s lunch, which I am still digesting by the way, was half of a chicken wrap (P79.00) and half of the US angus (P129.00) wrap which I happily shared with my mom.

Where?

At Jafar’s  Shawarma Station at the Banilad Town Center

I’ve got to admit, lately social media has been no friend of mine. It’s those times when there are countless pictures of mouth watering food while I’m suffering from an empty stomach that keep me up at night. And this month, Jafar’s Shawarma Station has been anything BUT discrete on my facebook, instagram, foursquare AND twitter feeds.

So being the curios and hungry cat that I am, we sought out for Jafar’s Shawarma Station on a busy Thursday evening… and then I came back Friday noon time and if my schedule permits, I’ll probably be back for dinner. I am HOOKED. Wrong movie but OK.

Minced Beef Wrap

Chicken Wrap

US Angus

Here’s their menu:

Here’s my ranking for the 3 wraps I had over the past 2 days:

1. US Angus

2. Minced Beef

3. Chicken – I’m not a big fan of curry or anything or the sort but this was still pretty good!

Follow Jafar’s Shawarma Station on instagram for more updates: @jafars_shawarma_station

And if you run into the owner, please make sure to ask him if he’s Jafar… I just think that’s the funniest thing to ask him :))

Cafe Noriter

Cafe Noriter. Where I only had an espresso shot. -.-

It’s totally still blog worthy, right? Despite me ONLY having an espresso shot. Sorry, it was just one of those days.

Cafe Noriter is one of those secret hideout places that you wanna keep a secret but unfortunately, cannot. It’s soo unique with their bunk cubicles and private sheds that it kind of reminds me of the tree I’ve always wanted as a kid.

It is such a quirky place to go and hang out with friends and family and if the set up won’t amuse you, I’m sure the little notes and jokes plastered all over their walls will!

Although I only had their espresso shot, I’ve heard from a friend or two that their other drinks aren’t “to die for” and if you’re not into the Korean blend, then you might want to stick to something more familiar.

But nevertheless, there’s always something for everybody!

I only had an espresso shot because if you didn’t already know, I can’t have too much sweets and plus, my friends showed up too late to catch the last order. (It was their soft opening so operations ended early)

I promise to make an update next time we go back, hopefully with more food and drinks this time! 🙂

Issa

Lechon, Anyone?

Some Sundays my family and I like to drive down to Talisay to experience one of the best things about Cebu… our LECHON, of course.

For those who don’t know, lechon is a roasted whole pig, piglet, or cattle seasoned in spices, cooked in charcoal and is a popular dish of the Philippines

I always get really excited when my parents tell us where we’re having lunch after Sunday mass and oftentimes, I think they even use it as a bribe to get me to go along with them.

So THIS time, I made sure to document it.

The Lechon place my family prefers to go to is located somewhere along Talisay and is in line with Dakbayan sa Talisay. (will post video soon). This lechon strip is a haven for everyone who could care less about their diets and loves everything greasy, fatty… and doesn’t care much for fine dinning.

At around P185.00/ kilo families can enjoy eating Lechon like a true Cebuano, kinamot style or my version: kinamot wrapped in plastic style. 😉

Let’s be honest, people don’t really go to the Talisay Lechon strip for anything other than the Lechon but it doesn’t hurt to have these food offered anyways. Chicharon Bulaklak, barbecued everything and dirty ice cream at the side of the road… makes living in the Philippines sound just a little bit better despite all the sh*t we’ve been going through lately.

Our personal preference is Mila’s Lechon. But there are a lot to choose from.

Best times to go are at 10:00 am- 12:00 nn

HAPPY FEASTING!
